Generator Technician

Summary/Objective
The Generator Technician troubleshoots and repairs alternating current electrical systems on generators, automatic transfer switches, generator controls and engine related mechanical failures; and performs routine preventative maintenance, oil and filter changes and inspections on all generator and by-pass pumps.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Manage all aspects of critical power systems installation, start-up, and commissioning.
- Perform diagnostic and repair procedures on all systems including PLCs, AC/DC, and switch gears.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on electric power generation equipment including gas and diesel engines, generators, and transfer switches.
- Run load bank tests on diesel, natural gas and propane generators
- Diagnose and repair any issues found during initial testing
- Perform voltage changes on generators based on customer requirements
- Re-wire, adjust and install control panels and voltage regulators
- Adjust speed controls and various settings
- Change filters and perform standard service on units
- Work closely with the leaders on project progress, estimates, etc.
- Assist in preparing generators for shipment as needed
- Assist with other duties as required
Skills and Specifications
Great organizational skills.
General knowledge of safe working practices.
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel, natural gas and propane gensets
Thorough knowledge of testing and troubleshooting various sized generators.
Read and interpret owners manuals, equipment schematics and work orders.
Ability to speak, read and write English.
Have and maintain a clean driving record (able to drive company vehicles).
Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills.
Demonstrable ability to use hand tools
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
Ability to take direction and work well with a team
Travel
This position may require occasional travel to job sites.
Required Education and Experience
High School graduate (or equivalent)
3 years' minimum experience with generators and site installations
Electrical Power Generator Technician certification or graduation from a technical school, preferred
Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA) certification a plus
In-depth understanding of generator technology
Fully trained on Cummins and Caterpillar products
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check after accepting a conditional offer of employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.Have/maintain a clean driving record. CDL is a plus
