Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for timely and accurate recording of financial transactions and financial reporting for Moran Environmental Recovery, LLC and its subsidiaries (MER). Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is expected to drive the monthly close, cash management, tax administration and various financial analyses and special projects while continuously seeking to improve and implement MER's internal business processes and procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the Corporate Accounting Manager with driving the completion and improvement of the monthly financial close process for seven entities
  • Prepare monthly combining and consolidating financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders
  • Post journal entries to accounting system and provide accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts (including month end adjustments)
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Help manage Company’s expense platform (i.e. Concur), policy compliance and related accounting
  • Monitor and file state and other local business taxes across 7 entities and 40+ states and local jurisdictions in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements with accuracy and within the necessary due dates
  • Monitor and resolve tax issues and notices timely
  • Perform internal audit functions over policy and accounting compliance areas
  • Develop and assist with delegation of financial responsibilities to the staff accounting team
  • Preparation of scheduled reports, analyses, and special projects
  • Help prepare and compile documentation to assist with company audits
  • Responsible for ad hoc projects on an as needed basis assigned by the Corporate Accounting Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience required, preferably in a contractor (or similar) industry
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial controls
  • Hands on experience with construction accounting software (Spectrum or Timberline)
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations
  • Proficiency in general computer operations and web-based applications
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including vlookups and pivot tables
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with internal and external clients and all levels of management, office, and field employees
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA Candidate and/or Masters degree preferred
