Job Description

Essential Functions:

The primary function of this role is to assist the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations of the store. The duties of this role will focus on the buying, merchandising, and inventory management for The Montreat Store but will also require operational duties such as assisting customers, cleaning, and doing inventory. The buyer will be responsible for planning and selecting a wide range of products.

Essential Duties:

The essential duties are as follows:

  • Serve as the primary buyer for merchandise for the store. This includes gift items and Montreat branded items.

  • Analyze consumer buying patterns and anticipate future trends, including regularly reviewing key performance indicators such as sales and discount patterns, stock levels, and item requests and reacting to demand and logistics.

  • Collaborate with the Store Manager on a sales plan, seasonal merchandising, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Brief coworkers about new, incoming merchandise.

  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers. This includes meeting with suppliers, negotiating contract terms, finding new suppliers for future products, managing logistical issues, and handling problems as they arise.

  • Assist customers with locating items, ringing up sales in the POS system and/or bagging merchandise.

  • Operate the cash register, credit card machine, and other tools needed to assist customers with purchasing times in the Montreat Store.

  • Assist the Store Manager with day-to-day management of the store, including supervising sales associates, volunteers, and summer staff, opening/closing, and other functions of operations.

  • Attend markets and trade shows as agreed upon by the Store Manager.

  • Suggest promotional and sale opportunities in order to move merchandise appropriately.

  • Organize sales floor and display merchandizing of all items. Maintain and create an ambiance that is conducive to the clientele of The Montreat Store.

  • Direct or assist in special events, such as coordinating book signings and special sales.

  • Check-in and price merchandise in POS system.

  • Regularly cleans out and organizes storage rooms and displays.

  • Assist with restocking, sales, inventory, and cycle counts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School graduate or equivalency; Bachelor or Associate Degree preferred.

  • Experience: 3-5 years of service in retail, customer service, merchandising, or a related environment.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time; must be able to lift 20 lbs.

  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.

  • Has a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
