Job Title: Physical Education Teacher

Department: Primary and Elementary Program

Supervisor’s Title:  Elementary Program Director

Employee Classification: Full-Time, Non-exempt

Daily Schedule: TBD, 30 hours per week

Salary Range: $16.25 to $19.50 per hour (MAC is unique in that our paid holidays result in 7 weeks of paid time off, meaning that although we are only open 45 weeks, assistants are paid the full 52 weeks annually)  

The Physical Education Teacher is an integral component of the specials team at the Montessori Academy of Colorado (MAC). As a member of this team, the Physical Education Teacher manages and executes all activities and the PE curriculum for the primary and elementary aged children at MAC.

Essential Responsibilities: 

• Understands and supports the mission, pedagogy, vision, and values of the Montessori Academy of Colorado
• Ensures a consistent, high quality, mission and Montessori reflective educational experience for all parents, students, and teachers
• Commitment to creating a sustainable system for movement at MAC, targeting the primary and elementary aged children
• Create and document a developmentally appropriate movement curriculum that is aligned with the Montessori Curriculum and the common core state standards 
• Create and document weekly lesson plans that scaffold skills for children
• Data collection and record keeping will be a key component of this job
• Plan and execute multiple events throughout the school year including, but not limited to, Field Day, Staff VS Student basketball game, awareness events (jump rope for heart, events that support families values and goals, etc) 
• Committed to monthly meetings with the specials team, elementary team and elementary director
• Daily planning 
• Collaboration with teams
• Use class budget to maintain and refresh supplies
• Collaborate with lead teachers to communicate current curriculum
• Attend all professionally related events for MAC – Gala, Back to School Night, fundraising events, staff meetings

Personal Qualities:

• Strong understanding of physical education and movement aligned to the Montessori philosophy 
• Strong communication skills
• Sense of planning

Education/Licensure:

• Previous experience working with school aged children
• Previous experience within the physical education realm 

Physical Requirements:

• Able to continuously walk, stand, climb stairs, and sit
• Frequent bending or stooping, and reaching above shoulder level
• Able lift 40 pounds
