The Director, Application R&D Lab drives a strong company-wide culture of collaboration. The laboratory team is helping to develop first-of-its-kind technology, making clean hydrogen and cleanly made carbon black. The Director, Application R&D, makes the company smarter by leading the team tasked with informing manufacturing and sales, with a knowledge base and data to support our go-to-market product. As a Director, Application R&D Lab you are responsible for leadership over the day-to-day operations of the Monolith Technical Center. The main responsibility is cataloging, planning, and documenting MTC discoveries and breakthroughs while also providing leadership in safety and innovation. This also includes maintaining the cleanliness, organization, structure and supplies of the laboratories.

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred plus 10+ years of lab leadership experience

What you'll do in the role:

• Lead and build team culture around the Monolith Carbon Black product line that drives a continual pursuit to be the preferred supplier in every market we serve

• Establish and direct research aimed at continuous improvement in Monolith's carbon material product lines.
• Expedite new work requests to ensure researchers have tools needed for success
• Provide safety leadership through the role of the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) at the MTC

• Manage and oversee advanced analytical, applications, and product development scientists and engineers to maximize efficiency and personal potential through careful planning of laboratory space, internal and external equipment, employee training and development, and overall resource allocation.
• Facilitate repairs through the management of other individuals on any equipment failures in rapid, cost-effective manner
• Participate in cross-functional brainstorming and problem solving with peers to achieve organizational goals

• Develop new procedures and tests that function as proxies for performance in key customer applications
• Performs other duties as needed.

Your environment:

Primarily in an active laboratory environment with some time in an open office environment. Less than 25% travel.
