Your Role

The Controls Engineer is responsible for oversight and technical expertise on the Distributed Control System (DCS) and instrumentation systems and process controls. The role requires a strong understanding of the actual design of the system hierarchy, and expertise in programming the DeltaV DCS systems, as well as peripherals and transmitters including HART, Modbus, and other protocol communication systems.

The role is further responsible for coordination of the design and specification of other operations information systems which will be integrated into OC1 and future builds, such as the process data historian, maintenance tracking system, and integration with an ERP system and lab data system as they are deployed.

You Will

  • Performs variety of skilled support duties involved in installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of control systems hardware and software encompasses primarily DCS (distributed control systems), PLCs (programmable logic controllers), safety instrument systems (SIS), HMI (human machine interface), alarm management.
  • Provides technical assurance and support to Information Technology (IT) group on issues impacting control systems network such as, but not limited to, performance, system security, operating system, and system administration interfaces.
  • Ensures adherence to established guidelines, policies, procedures, and applicable governmental regulations.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation on plant control systems.
  • Works with Operations and Maintenance for needed system bypass's during testing or maintenance activities.
  • Supports projects through technical contribution to specifications, hardware and software design, testing, and commissioning.
  • Performs or assists in performing inspections of delivered materials, parts, and equipment when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers, process engineers, purchasers, and other internal staff.
  • Contractor management over electrical activities
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities.
  • Project management within cost and time-constrained environments.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with safe work practices
  • Manage projects using sound engineering principles and techniques.
  • Produce details of specifications and outline designs.
  • Monitor status, performance, and health of critical control systems
  • Performs other duties as needed.

You Have

  • Bachelor of Science in Technical discipline plus 3 years' automation experience or associate's technical degree plus 5 years automation experience.
  • Strong understanding of process control, process instrumentation, DCS systems, and network design and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Data Systems, user needs and architecture.
  • Familiarity with integrating Production Data Processes with an ERP system. Understand Business Processes and workflow mapping.
  • Experience designing control strategies and data networks, as well as interfacing different system types.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience.
  • Must be able to answer after hours calls for plant support.
