Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education.

We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of after-school support services that serve over 3,400 children, youth and families each year. Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception.

The Extended Day (ED) is an award-winning afterschool academic enrichment program serving over 1,100 children K-5 year-round from Marshall Elementary, Bryant Elementary School, Flynn Elementary School, Sanchez Elementary School, Thomas Edison Charter Academy, and Alvarado Elementary School. We are now bringing our program to Cleveland Elementary School. Youth who participate in the Extended Program develop a sense of self-confidence in their ability to learn, to speak their voice and to contribute to their community. The program infuses "college messaging" throughout its curriculum to ensure both children and parents alike begin visualizing early for the college experience. We are seeking afterschool teachers for Cleveland Extended Day Program.

After school teachers will work closely with the school’s day time classroom teachers to observe best teaching practices, lead small academic support groups in reading and math, and learn the specifics grades curriculum to assist with homework and the development of lessons and units of study. In addition, all afterschool teachers will attend professional development conferences and workshops throughout the school year to continue their professional growth.

Reports To: Extended Day Program Director
Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties
Plan and lead daily academic and enrichment activities for about twenty students

  • Utilize standards-based curriculum to write lesson plans infusing students literacy development
  • Lead an enrichment class (i.e. art, drumming, gardening) each semester.
  • Develop and integrate college "culture-building" activities into the classroom.
  • Coordinate and support volunteers in classroom
  • Develop a nurturing, safe, respectful, multicultural learning environment.

Support students to reach specific literacy benchmarks

  • Facilitate vocabulary building and reading comprehension activities that build upon the “school day” learning objectives
  • Design, develop and implement theme & project-based learning projects that supports student academic and personal achievement

Build cultural and educational bridges with students and their families.

  • Assist in community outreach, parent communication, and volunteer supervision
  • Coordinate on-going communication and feedback systems with families, teachers and volunteers

Assist in the daily operations of the EDP including supervising youth, administrative tasks & staff development

  • Maintain accurate youth files and records, i.e. attendance, student behavior, and other evaluation forms to track student progress
  • Participate in staff development, team and supervision meetings
  • Provide overall support of the program, including support for field trips, special events and parent workshops
  • Plan and coordinate field trips, parent events, and other school-wide events
  • Serve as part of larger Mission Graduates team
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Two years proven ability and experience working with urban youth.
  • Experience in teaching and/or after-school programming.
  • Understanding of youth development principles.
  • Passion for working with children and youth is a must, as well as a willingness to explore alternative, non-institutional teaching methods.
  • Must be able to relate effectively to diverse community and demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency required.
  • BA or BS required.
  • TB test clearance mandatory prior to hire.
  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
  • Candidate must be flexible, well organized and able to take initiative.
  • Current CPR certification (or attained within 2 months of employment).

Maestros Preescolares- Programa Extended Day- Cuartos y Quintos Grados (Clase Combinada)

Mission Graduates es una organización sin fines de lucro que se dedica a incrementar la cantidad de estudiantes de grados Kinder hasta el grado 12 que están preparados para educación universitaria y que obtienen una educación universitaria.

Obtenemos esta meta por medio de una variedad de programas extraescolares que sirven a más de 3,600 estudiantes y sus familias cada año. Nuestra misión es transformar la cultura en el distrito de la Mission en San Francisco para que una educación universitaria se convierta en una expectativo, no una excepción.

El programa Extended Day (ED), o “día extendido” es un programa extraescolar que enriquece el aprendizaje de más de 1,100 estudiantes en la Mission. El programa incorpora la visualización en el currículo para asegurar que tanto los estudiantes como sus padres empiecen a visualizar una educación universitaria. Estamos contratando maestros extraescolares para todos nuestros programas (ED).

Los maestros extraescolares trabajaran en conjunto a los maestros del día para observar las mejores maneras de asistir a los maestros del día y proveer ayuda académica a los estudiantes basado en el currículo de los maestros del día. Adicionalmente, los maestros extraescolares asistirán a conferencias de desenrollamiento profesional durante el año escolar para así poder continuar con su crecimiento profesional.

Responsabilidades
Crear y facilitar planes académicos y actividades de enriquecimiento para aproximadamente 20 estudiantes.

  • Utilizar currículo normalizado de los maestros del día y incorporar desenrollamiento de alfabetización.
  • Facilitar una clase de enriquecimiento ( por ejemplo: clases de cocina, jardinería o teatro) cada semestre.
  • Desarrollar e implementar “college-going culture,” o la cultura de estudios universitarios.
  • Coordinar y apoyar a los voluntarios en el salón de clases.
  • Desarrollar un ambiente multicultural de aprendizaje seguro y respetuoso.
  • Administración del programa, incluyendo récords y documentación.

Requisitos

  • 2 años de experiencia y habilidad comprobada de trabajar con jóvenes de comunidades urbanas.
  • Experiencia como maestro/a y en programas extraescolares.
  • Entendimiento de principios de desollamiento para los jóvenes.
  • Por favor tome en cuenta que se requiere poder escribir y leer inglés para esta posición.
