Our Results | 2017 - 2018 School Year

  • After two years, we've nearly closed the achievement gap. 42.7% of 6th-grade students at Milwaukee Excellence are proficient in math compared to 44.5% of 6th-grade students statewide for the 2017 - 2018 school year.

  • Our trajectory is unparalleled. From year one to year two, we've grown 19.2 points in math and 14.4 points in ELA.

  • We've proved what's possible. Our math scores for African-American students are triple the state average for African-American students. Our ELA scores are double those for African-American students across the state.

Why Teach Coding?

  • Computer science is the fastest growing profession. There are 7,900 open computing jobs in Wisconsin.

  • 1,036 AP Computer Science exams were taken in 2017; only 7 of these students were black. We will radically change this statistic in 2022 when 125 Milwaukee Excellence students will take the AP Computer Science exam.
