Ranked the #1 school in Milwaukee, and featured on Good Morning America and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Excellence is a new school with a big personality and big results. Opened in 2016, Milwaukee Excellence currently serves 330 students in 6th through 8th grade and will grow one grade level per year until we reach 12th grade. Our Results | 2017 - 2018 School Year
After two years, we've nearly closed the achievement gap. 42.7% of 6th-grade students at Milwaukee Excellence are proficient in math compared to 44.5% of 6th-grade students statewide for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
Our trajectory is unparalleled. From year one to year two, we've grown 19.2 points in math and 14.4 points in ELA.
We've proved what's possible. Our math scores for African-American students are triple the state average for African-American students. Our ELA scores are double those for African-American students across the state.
Why Teach Coding?
Computer science is the fastest growing profession. There are 7,900 open computing jobs in Wisconsin.
1,036 AP Computer Science exams were taken in 2017; only 7 of these students were black. We will radically change this statistic in 2022 when 125 Milwaukee Excellence students will take the AP Computer Science exam.
