Field Service Technician, Pittsburgh Region
A Field Service Technician is primary responsible for providing quality installations, maintenance and repairs of plastic injection/extrusion equipment. Breakdowns will require troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components and circuits. A person who has installed, repaired, troubleshot robotics, major machine tooling, plastic injection molding machines, blow molding machines or extrusion machines would be a great fit for this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Troubleshoot and repair plastic injection/extrusion equipment.
2. Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment (strong knowledge of motor & pump controls).
3. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on equipment.
4. Support customers by effectively interfacing with customer and office in repairing equipment as needed.
5. Evaluate and make recommendations regarding required repairs.
6. Provide a high level of communication with both Customer and Office.
Field Service Technician - Plastics Industry
Perform maintenance and repairs plastic injection/extrusion machines at customer locations as directed.
Responsible for safe operations of company vehicles and maintaining a driver’s license in good standing. Driver’s record will be reviewed annually and subject to company policy for driving privileges.
Conduct extensive on-site electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and electronic troubleshooting to determine cause for equipment malfunction and establish the necessary repairs utilizing visual inspection, test procedures and appropriate test equipment.
Document findings and make corrective recommendations for the equipment to customer, determine customers’ intentions to purchase repairs and advise local service office of actions necessary to sell or complete the repairs.
Occasionally may be required to perform after-hours services as part of customer’s maintenance contract, in response to a service call or on an emergency call due to an equipment breakdown.
Responsible for having read and understood the contents of ANSI, and other codes or regulations pertaining to our industry. Although complete knowledge of every code is not possible, must be familiar with the regulations and refresh knowledge of codes periodically.
Responsible for being able to complete and enter service reports daily using proper grammar skills.
Prior to leaving any jobsite, expected to review all repairs performed and discuss all recommendations with customer’s contact. All paperwork must be signed by customer as evidence of the review and acceptance of workmanship. Signature is our authority to invoice for work completed.
Responsible for maintaining a professional appearance with company issued clothing, and not permitted to wear jewelry which may interfere with safe work practices. Hair must also be kept trimmed so that there is no danger of entanglement during normal work.
Responsible to maintain all company issued equipment and assets in safe and proper working order. Any maintenance required must be immediately brought to the attention of management for disposition or replacement.
Replenish from company stock a supply of forms and literature on the service vehicle and be capable of utilizing the proper documentation and forms used by the service department.
Accountable and responsible for inventory and miscellaneous materials stocked on the service vehicle and filling out any forms necessary to document their use or sale to customer.
Responsible for generating service leads during service calls and documenting the needs on service paperwork.
Responsible for following all safety procedures of the customer and employer at all times. Shall provide customers and employer with a written “service report” of any observed or known safety concerns discovered during the course of daily work. A signature of acknowledgement must be indicated on the documents as evidence of such notice.
Must maintain regular communication with the local office and/or call in a minimum of once per day to the service supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Industrial Electricity, Electronic Engineering technology or related field or equivalent vocational/technical training and experience.
Minimum two to four years work experience in plastic injection/extrusion equipment or similar types of equipment or machine tool.
Machining and welding skills desired.
Proven Mechanical and electrical skills required to include the ability to read mechanical blueprint and electrical schematics.
Must have and maintain a good driving record and cannot be afraid of heights.
Overtime and out of town travel is necessary. Prior experience in plastics a plus.
Experience in repair and troubleshooting of Military electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatics of complex systems would be plus.
Will have a high degree of understanding of installing computer software programs as they pertain to manufactured machines.
