Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
This position prepares and supports the coordination and filing of Berkshire Hathaway Energy's (BHE) filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); supports the review of BHE's registrant subsidiaries' SEC filings and manages the review of its non-registrant subsidiaries' external financial reports to ensure consistency among the reports; prepares schedules and analyses in support of BHE's SEC filings; researches new SEC rules; ensures the consistency and accuracy of financial information included in deliverables produced by the corporate communications department; provides support to the business units and to BHE's external auditors.
Prepares BHE's combined SEC filings, including Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, Form 8-K and registration statements as required. [20-25%]
Prepares responses to quarterly and annual information and data requests received from Berkshire Hathaway Inc. [10-15%]
Supports the review of BHE's registrant subsidiaries' SEC filings, ensuring the consistency and accuracy of presentation and disclosure. [5-10%]
Manages the review of BHE's non-registrant subsidiaries' financial statements necessary for regulatory, legal or other requirements, ensuring the consistency and accuracy of presentation and disclosure. [10-15%]
Participates in the research, resolution and documentation of all BHE SEC reporting matters. [5-10%]
Provides support to the business units on SEC reporting matters. [5-10%]
Monitors developments relative to new accounting guidance and SEC rules in coordination with the business units and BHE's external auditors. [0-5%]
Assists in the implementation of new SEC rules across all business units. [0-5%]
Provides support to regulated business units with federal and state regulatory filings and data requests. [0-5%]
Supports BHE's external auditors, including the preparation of requested work papers and schedules. [5-10%]
Assists in the preparation of presentations and reports for the BHE Board of Directors and Audit Committee, as needed. [0-5%]
Supports the corporate communications and treasury departments relative to the consistency and accuracy of financial information included in various external and internal communications, including presentations, brochures, fact sheets and media requests. [5-10%]
Supports acquisition and business development work as requested. [0-5%]
Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. [0-5%]
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field and certified public accountant or demonstrated progress towards certified public accountant preferred. Public accounting experience preferred.
Five years of progressive related accounting and financial reporting experience with SEC reporting experience preferred.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Proficient in the use of accounting and reporting systems and software (e.g., Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
