Come join the ARCHES team and help Veterans experiencing chronic homelessness. The Veteran Services Site Assistant will provide direct support to sheltering services for the homeless Veteran population. This position will also support the daily operations of the Tanner Project, which include regular cleaning and laundry services, clerical duties, data collection & entry, assisting clients with navigation to resources, and other special projects as needed. This is a grant-funded, full-time position located at the Tanner Project, a transitional program that provides safe and stable housing to Veterans experiencing chronic homelessness.

Candidates must submit applications by 08/15 to be considered for first-round interviews.

We have swing and graveyard shift opportunities available: 4:00pm - 12:30am and 12:00am - 8:30am.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); 1 year of case management or social service experience; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferences given to applicants who have a background in Veteran culture and/or security.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATION
  • Valid driver license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and satisfactory drive record for previous three years, or an acceptable alternative.
  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.
  • Food Handler's Card required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Able to comply with COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy or have an approved exemption before start date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must possess computer skills including Microsoft Office, data entry, and internet applications.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and engages with others in a cooperative and supportive manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
  • Provides support to Tanner Project with tasks such as cooking, laundry, cleaning, or any other life skills.
  • Maintains consistent upkeep of shared spaces, including regular, thorough cleaning and sanitation of the facility.
  • Prepares for incoming residents, which may include cleaning & vacuuming rooms, washing linens and ensuring access to resources.
  • Utilizes de-escalation techniques and makes quick decisions in response to resident or guest incidents.
  • Assists with the maintenance and rotation of food in the pantry. May assist Site Assistant II with food orders.
  • Sorts mail, donations and shipments of supplies.
  • Facilitates data collection and inputs utilization information into the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Occasionally helps with landscaping maintenance. May include trimming, spraying and assisting residents with planting and harvesting plants in raised garden.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • May occasionally require driving motor vehicle to another site or location.
  • Varying shift demands (day/eve/night) may require fluctuations in work schedule, particularly during cold seasonal months.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others and respond to potential emergencies.
  • Requires frequent personal mobility between areas of the shelter and/or sites.
  • Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling personal items, food, clothing, sacks, carts and use of computers and written in-take processing.
  • Use of kitchen equipment including, but not limited to range, oven, steamer, dishwasher, and various kitchen utensils.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Occasional urgent situations requiring law enforcement involvement and/or paramedic professionals.
  • Close quarters, often with a client population experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unpredictable behavior.
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids and malodorous air.
  • Potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other infectious conditions. Face coverings and other PPE may be required.
  • Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.
