We're looking for an experienced trademark attorney to lead Microsoft's trademark team and manage Microsoft's global trademark practice. The trademark team is responsible for advising on a broad range of trademark issues, including clearance, conflicts, licensing, intermediary and contributory liability, prosecution, trademark counseling, as well as internal and external policy development and outreach.
Responsibilities for this role include:
+ Oversee the company's worldwide trademark practice, including all clearance and counseling, prosecution, conflicts, licensing, and policy and advocacy work.
+ Serve as counsel and trusted advisor to leadership in the legal department and marketing organization on a broad range of strategic trademark matters.
+ Direct management of trademark matters relating to Microsoft's house brand and logo, and the trademark counseling needs of Microsoft's subsidiaries.
+ Develop the trademark team's strategy and related actions plans to achieve business goals aligned to the mission and strategy of the legal department.
+ Implement processes, strategic plans, and programs to drive effectiveness, efficiency, and digital transformation in the trademark practice.
+ Drive effective collaboration between the trademark team and other teams instrumental to ensuring the effective marketing and go-to-market for Microsoft products and services, e.g., Microsoft's advertising, copyright, domains, and product teams.
+ Anticipate and identify opportunities for policy and advocacy outreach, and develop Microsoft's position on key trademark policy matters.
+ Lead and develop a diverse team of attorneys, paralegals, program managers, and operations specialists dedicated to the achievement of current and future business objectives.
+ Cultivate and foster a psychologically safe and inclusive environment for the trademark team, and a team that practices Microsoft's cultural values.
+ Manage the trademark operations and legal resources within budget.
+ Manage a global network of more than 100 outside counsel.
+ D. or equivalent law degree with excellent academic credentials
+ A minimum of 10 years as a practicing attorney, specializing in trademark law with extensive international experience in clearance, prosecution, licensing, and conflict work, including litigation or litigation management. In-house experience is preferred.
