General Accountabilities

The Human Resource (HR) Generalist will be responsible for HR-related issues at their facility, managing the day to day HR operations. The HR Generalist will manage the administration of the HR policies, procedures, and programs relating to Labour Relations and Health and Safety, maintain the data integrity for their facility in the HRIS system, facilitate recruitment and onboarding processes for new hires, and be the first point of contact at their facility.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Take an active role in understanding the business and employee issues, and build strong relationships with management and employees, including the union stewards at the facility
  • Modify new or current employee info in the HRIS system, and ensure employee information is accurate and sent to Payroll for update in ADP (i.e., location, supervisor, pay, premiums, shift, etc.)
  • Prepare and coordinate facility overtime lists including posting and calling employees for overtime
  • Analyze and manage facility roster against budgeted headcount and provide/update the weekly temp report
  • Collaborate with supervisors to manage the fair and consistent application of discipline
  • Conduct workplace investigations regarding grievances, employee complaints and incidents/accidents
  • Educate employees and supervisors on the Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure it is administered accurately and consistently
  • Coordinate and attend Joint Health and Safety meetings, maintain meeting minutes, coordinate monthly facility and racking inspections, conduct evacuation drills and follow-up on any outstanding health and safety issues
  • Manage workplace injury by conducting and reporting Accident/Near Miss investigations, completing WSIB paperwork (Form 7s), coordinating return to work meetings, and providing guidance to management and employees regarding disability management and accommodation
  • Maintain and manage the Health and Safety board, meeting minutes and policies
  • Assist in occupational and non-occupational injury/illness accommodation requests
  • Manage temporary staffing functions including new requests, replacements, cancellations and submitting temp hours on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate with staffing agencies to source sufficient labour in respected facility
  • Prepare and complete employment letters, employee change forms and various other letters
  • Coordinate training and facilitate onboarding program for permanent and temporary employees by completing documentation, tours and “how to” on ADP system

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor or Diploma in Human Resources or related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resources within a unionized environment
  • Passion for human resources and labour relations
  • Professional & pragmatic

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong sense of loyalty and positive mindset
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills
