Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) is a CAPRA-accredited and AZA-accredited, independent park district that leads efforts to build a healthy, sustainable community. POSITION INFORMATION
Under the direction of the assigned Coordinator or Childcare Specialist, Childcare Assistant will promote and deliver assigned Childcare related programs and activities.

  • Assist K-5 students in childcare program at designated TPS/MPT locations;
  • This position will follow staffing/ facility compliance within DCYF guidelines.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, TPS school staff, program partners and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.

Work in support of the partnership with Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT), Tacoma Public Schools (TPS) and the Out of School Time Intermediary (OSTI- Greentrike); work in support of all program partners in assigned activities.
  • Assist K-5 youth in Childcare programs to include assisting in activities
  • Assist programs and/or other special events related to the program assigned.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all youth, complying with COVID19 safety protocols at all times.
  • Assist with program quality and social emotional learning signature practices.
  • Participate in mandatory training, Including DCYF Child Abuse & Neglect, Blood Borne Pathogens, School Age Basics, School Age Childcare Orientation, Social Emotional Learning, On Site Coordinator training, and others.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public.
  • Assist on field trips, summer and break camp experiences.
  • Provide assistance with attendance or meal counts, in accordance with USDA/ OSPI guidelines; ability to maintain oversight of records and provide reporting as required.
  • Assist with preparation of oral presentations related to assigned Childcare programs or activities.
  • Perform emergency First Aid and CPR as needed and in accordance to established Childcare guidelines; provide for proper safety of participants in recreational programs.
  • Perform related Childcare duties as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain a shift availability 6:30 am -7pm (Monday - Friday), which will be assigned based on program need; potential work on weekends and ability to work holidays.
  • Ability to meet childcare education requirements; GED/HS Diploma required (Assistant).
  • Previous experience in licensed childcare settings highly desired.
  • Early Child Care (ECE) credits highly desired.
  • Valid Washington driver's license required.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Card required.
  • TB test required.

After careful consideration, Metro Parks has implemented the following directive that combines Governor Inslee's school-based requirement with the Park District's desire to protect children within its own facilities: Employees, volunteers, and vendors who work at school sites or who regularly come into contact with children under age 12 as a core function of their role with Metro Parks must show proof of full vaccination to designated agency personnel. Sight to prepare written or typed program material and monitor activities.
Hearing and speaking to conduct classes and exchange information.
