Job Description

Position Overview

The Solution Design Lead is responsible for facilitating enterprise wide adoption of Metrea’s Solution Framework ensuring that it is used to develop and evaluate all of Metrea’s solutions. They will assist the Head of Solution Design in the continued development of Metrea’s proprietary solution framework expanding its breadth and depth as well as providing advice towards its computerization into software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

(1) Developing Comprehensive Solutions (“IN”)

Support Metrea’s internal files

Work with Metrea’s business units to provide guidance and subject matter expertise (SME) to support the development of comprehensive, high-fit solutions for Metrea’s highest priority files.

Use, and mentor our BUs in the use of, Metrea’s Solution Framework tools to assist in identifying our customers most wicked and enduring problems and missions, and then designing high-fit, market focused, risk minimised solutions to these problems.

Key components of Metrea’s Solution Framework:

Effects – Scan and map the entire problem space to identify and characterise the effects required to be delivered by the solution ranging from the foundational level all the way down to the scientific.

Mission – Determine the most critical missions for the above threats and the key mission capabilities required from the strategic to tactical level, ensuring Metrea is focused on our customers most critical and relevant missions.

Asset – Design hardware and software with the necessary capabilities and combine these with appropriate CONOPs to most effectively execute the key mission requirements within the constraints imposed by the threat and the market.

Market – Understand both the customer environment (market size, policy, legislative, funding etc.) and the nature of the competition to ensure Metrea’s solutions are well aligned to the market ecosystem in which they must exist.

Risk – Identify risks across all elements of a potential solution and design mitigations to minimise this risk exposure through design changes, market shaping and/or financial (pricing, structuring etc.) and legal mitigations.

Evaluate Future

Acquisitions

Work with MAM’s Strategy team to evaluate potential acquisitions for their value add to Metrea, assessing both their intrinsic risk-adjusted value but also their broader benefit in supporting and adding value to Metrea’s existing operations and business units.

Provide SME and analysis from the broad strategic to the tactical and technical level again through the use of Metrea’s solution framework.

Support ROEX

Execution

Through improving design, implementation and training in the use of Metrea’s Risk and Opportunity Exposure Framework, support Metrea’s existing business units in identifying risks and opportunities for their existing programs, as well as designing and (where relevant) executing the strategies required to mitigate these risk exposures and to maximise opportunities.

(2) Supporting the Development of the Solution Design Capability (“ON”)

Guide the process used for Solution Design

Through the engagements with the BUs and the live use of the Solution Framework, help to ensure that both the process and the tooling are fit for purpose by working closely with the Head of Strategy and the Head of Solution Design to capture feedback and progress the Framework’s design and tooling.

(3) Teammate responsibilities – Providing Support

TAG participation

and leadership

Sponsor, lead or participate in Task Groups (TAGs) that draw on your skillsets or specialist knowledge as required by Metrea.

Market Engagement Support

Support both Metrea’s market engagement and development (MED) team and BUs where your subject matter expertise, customer knowledge or intimacy might help Metrea progress prospects. Represent Metrea as required at external events and venues.

Knowledge, skills, experience and traits required:

Ability to immerse oneself in new esoteric aerospace and multi-domain concepts and grow subject matter expertise in new technical niches and develop rapport with new user and stakeholder communities.

Good understanding in the field of global aviation, aerospace and more broadly in defence, along with the associated missions, assets, technologies and operations.

Broad aerospace exposure to include test and evaluation of operational, tactical and enabling platforms to both militaries and defense.

Engineering or computer science background, with a focus on aeronautical and/or software engineering. Experience in conducting relevant subject matter research & development at highest standards of rigour, discretion, and execution.

Proven ability to liaise and communicate with fluency with senior policy, military and industry officials.

Experience and deep knowledge of defence and security issues.

Experience in defence contracting and procurement and in sourcing project funding.

Active US TS/SCI or UK Secret/DV security clearance. Highly developed sense of judgement and maturity.

Intellectually curious, with strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and apply analytical rigour.

Strong organisational skills, discipline, with a high sense of reliability, discretion and confidentiality.

Proven ability to work effectively in, and leverage a highly collaborative, matrixed environment to achieve project ends.

Fluent in the use of modern software tools and applications. Ability to interact at highest levels of industry, scientific, technology, military, policy, and finance communities.

Ability to communicate effectively across languages, cultures, regions and industries, and experience in working in diverse international environments.

Highly developed communication and presentation skills. Capacity to balance strategic vs. operational mind-sets and results vs. process orientation.

Ability to function effectively under resource constraints and work creatively in a start-up environment.

Strongly orientated towards performance with solid and consistent ethical compass.

Demonstrated intellectual humility, high-levels of emotional intelligence and an innate ability to challenge own thinking and adjust to others’.
