Merrick Design Build is a family business started in 1989 by David Merrick, the pioneer of “design build” residential construction, and now run by his daughter Addie. We serve Montgomery County, MD and NW DC. Our team provides full service remodeling including beautiful kitchens & baths, to whole home remodels and additions. Our areas of expertise are complex structural renovations and additions. We love solving the puzzle of a pour layout to transform the function of the home maximizing the space you already have and adding on where needed.

Summary of Responsibilities

The production manager will take all projects from the sales/design team and manage them through from contract to completion; including supervising the appropriate team required to perform those duties which may include lead Carpenters, carpenters, laborers, vendors, and sub-contractors.

It is expected that the Production manager can effectively lead approximately 2 million to 3 million in gross sales.

The production manager must also manage the relationships between the subcontractors and Merrick; constantly seeking new subcontractors to join the team at Merrick and overseeing their performance on each project.

The production manager also takes responsibility for the entire operations of the company in the absence of the president.


Essential Functions

Review, Estimate and Approve Projects.

  • Attend Sub-Contractors meeting and provide feedback on job feasibility.
  • Provide a project schedule, in BuilderTrend, to be used for estimating.

Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate.

  • Write OSHA Job Safety Report
  • Maintain BuilderTrend, project schedules daily.
  • Manage change orders.
  • Manage inspections.
  • Use MDBI production checklists to run project from start to finish.
  • Minimize our exposure to risk on projects.

Subcontractors & Vendors

  • Manage and build subcontractor relationships
  • Issue subcontract
  • Place Purchase Orders and schedule freight deliveries.
  • Ensure that all trade contractors adhere to all of the company's policies concerning safety, cleanliness, alcohol and drug use, and customer consideration

Complete projects on time and on budget.

  • Hit or exceed target GP% on each project.
  • Review and code invoices.
  • Review field employees' weekly time entries
  • Provide needed information (through OneNote checklist) for admin to generate progress bills
  • Participate in job autopsies during job close out.

Maintain Merrick Quality Standards.

  • Dress appropriately and ensure team members do as well.
  • Oversee clean and safe jobsites
  • Ensure clients property is well protected through the course of a project.
  • Complete quality checks through out the project to ensure the highest quality finish.
  • Respond effectively to warranty claims in a timely fashion.

Maintain regular communication with clients.

  • Send Weekly Update emails.
  • Identify additional sales opportunities on projects.
  • Manage and resolve warranty issues.

Attend Meetings:

  • Lead Job Start Meeting
  • Sales sub meetings and provide project feedback.
  • Weekly production meeting with President and Home Repair managers.
  • Attend quarterly company budget meetings.

    Identify resources needed and assign individual responsibilities.

  • Train and hire staff for this division.
  • Maintain production staffing levels to meet current needs.
  • Assign field staff to projects.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews with production staff.
  • Identify problems and solutions related to our processes.

Work Experience Required

  • 10 years related experience with a combination of hands-on work in the field, administrative, supervisory, and managerial experience


  • Carpentry background and a construction management degree.


  • Required Skills, knowledge, and Abilities

  • Extensive rough carpentry experience and knowledge including layout knowledge of foundations, rafters, and stairs.
  • Extensive finish carpentry experience and knowledge including trim, cabinetry installation, and interior finishes.
  • Good working knowledge of all related building trades.
  • The ability to teach others.
  • Fluent English
  • Fluent Spanish
  • Plan reading
  • Scheduling
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft & BuilderTrend
  • Covid vaccine required


  • $75,000-$95,00 DOE
  • Unlimited vacation, within reason, coordinated among the team
  • 7 holidays paid off-NY day, Memorial, Labor day, 4th of July, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Thanksgiving
  • Full paid Kaiser (HMO) gold plan (does not cover dependents.)
