INTRODUCTION

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Lead Program Specialist provides education, training, and support services for individuals in Melwood Virginia's Day Support Program(s). Programming focuses on areas such as skill development, recreation, vocational exploration and career preparedness. Program responsibilities include development and management of individual support plans based on person-centered planning, oversight of program documentation guidelines, and delivery of daily program needs which includes preparing and facilitating daily lessons and activities.

The Lead Program Specialist is also responsible for developing community connections and scheduling opportunities with these entities into the daily schedule. The Lead Program Specialist will act as a lead to other Program Specialists and assist the Program Director and Program Manager in completing duties as assigned that are essential to the successful operation of the program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide direct support services to individuals with disabilities including coordination, development, and implementation of individual service plans based on person-centered planning principles.


  1. Provide monthly documentation of services in a timely manner consistent with regulatory and program guidelines.


  1. Ensure quality on monthly documentation of services and enable submission in a timely manner that is consistent with regulatory and program guidelines.


  1. Develop and implement educational lessons, activities, and trainings that focus on skill development, career readiness, recreation, and on-going education.


  1. Develop community relationships and schedule opportunities with these entities into the daily schedule.


  1. Lead community integration activities, which could include driving participants to designated sites in the local area.
  2. Maintain all Melwood Virginia Day Support Services' county, state, and federal regulations for human services providers including supervision ratios, mandatory documentation guidelines, and promoting a safe, ethical, and professional environment.


  1. The Lead Program Specialist is expected to serve as a role model and mentor to individuals in the Program Specialist position.
  2. Other duties as assigned that are essential to the daily operations of the program (examples include, but are not limited to, leadership on audits, special events, daily communications, and schedule coverage).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Program Manager, Melwood Virginia Day Support Services reports directly to the Program Manager, Melwood Virginia Day Support Services..

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must be able to stand/walk 80%, drive 10% and sit 10% of the work time. He/she must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach and must possess hand and finger dexterity. Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors and management. Must possess good hearing and vision as driving is a requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to Melwood Virginia Day Support Services Program with a preferred addition of two years' experience in education, vocational rehabilitation, job coaching, or recreational therapy or working with individuals with disabilities.
