The Pharmacy Technician assists in the creation and routing of pharmacy orders through receipt, review and verification of patients' prescriptions. The Pharm tech preps and scans documents, verifies patient data, submits orders in the computer system, accurately processes, packages and labels prescriptions under the direct supervision of the pharmacist on duty. This role must be filled by a registered Pharmacy Technician who is licensed by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
l Enter new and refill prescription orders accurately.
l Prepare paperwork, gather supplies and complete processes for preparation of prescriptions.
l Calculate doses, assign directions, and accept proper insurance payment as well as resolve basic insurance issues.
l Collect clinical notes/labs from Physician to initiate prior authorization.
l Accurately process, package and label prescriptions under the direct supervision of the pharmacist on duty.
l Pull pharmacy order information for a patient and determine information needed for follow-up.
l Identify information needed for outbound calls to patients (e.g., patient, medication, billing information).
l Review data base of patient pharmacy orders and enter appropriate patient-related data, contacting patients for needed information related to pharmacy orders.
l Respond to pharmacy order questions as necessary (e.g., family patient medications, timeline of delivery).
l Verify patient data (e.g., address) and enter/update order-related information into relevant system (e.g., patient address, insurance, allergies, medical conditions, OTC notes, HIPAA).
l Review/enter order/patient data needed and release information.
l Enter refill orders requested by patients into system, document details of patient pharmacy orders in system.
l Change/input request/order status to reflect priority (e.g., rush orders, urgent processing designation, overnight shipping).
l Professionally handle incoming requests (via phone, fax or email) from patients and other stakeholders to ensure that questions and/or issues are answered/resolved both promptly and in a timely fashion.
l Thoroughly and efficiently gather patient information to support patient access and deliver on any patient needs within allotted timelines.
l Provide excellence in customer service and patient support in a variety of areas including, but not limited to: initial intake, follow up on prescription orders, system/process troubleshooting, communication, issue identification / resolution and customer satisfaction.
l Ensure compliance to highest ethical standards and to all company business policies.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
l Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
l Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
l Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
l Highly motivated self-starter with a willingness to assume responsibility, take ownership for her/his work, and intelligently challenge the status quo.
l Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) licensed by the California State Board of Pharmacy required.
l High School Diploma required.
l 2+ years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician is highly preferred.
l Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction.
l Demonstrated passion for excellence with respect to treating and caring for patients.
l Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
l Ability to listen to patients and healthcare providers that have issues and concerns with a professional manner.
