The Ophthalmology Department at the Medical College of Wisconsin is recruiting a uveitis specialist to join its full-time faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on the candidate?s qualifications. Consideration also will be given to candidates with dual training, such as cornea/external eye disease and retina (although the latter would need to have an interest and expertise in anterior and intermediate uveitis), and to clinician-scientist candidates as indicated below.
The Department consists of 22 physician faculty members, two basic scientists (with a research director and hopefully one additional scientist anticipated to joint us within the next year), and five optometrists. The Department is located within the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute, an eight-story building dedicated exclusively to Ophthalmology and Vision Research. Two floors are committed to offices and laboratory space that can accommodate up to six basic scientists; three floors are used for our outpatient clinics; one floor is committed to our four ophthalmic operating rooms and recovery room, with one of the adjacent floors for scheduling, preoperative evaluations, and processing our patients for outpatient surgery; and one floor is for faculty offices and administration. Faculty members also see patients at the Children?s Hospital of Wisconsin (on the MCW campus) and the Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (about 5 miles from the Eye Institute), as well as at two satellite offices (each within about 10 miles of the Eye Institute).
An incoming uveitis specialists? division of labor would be tailored to her/his desired balance of clinical, research, and teaching activities (as mentioned above, we are in the process of recruiting additional basic scientists, so we would welcome a uveitis specialist clinician-scientist for this position). One of our priorities is providing access to a uveitis specialist for our regional referring physicians and optometrists, as our current uveitis specialist, Dr. Wanda Martinez, is leaving MCW to be closer to family and the nearest uveitis specialists are otherwise in Madison, Wisconsin (about 75 miles) and Chicago, Illinois (about 100 miles).
