The Vice Chair for Clinical Operations will provide oversight, direction, and leadership for the clinical practice and clinical operations of all practices staffed by the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Emergency Medicine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Development and implementation of strategic plans for the patient care mission of the Department in conjunction with Department Chair.
Convene regular meetings of the departmental clinical operations community through an clinical operations leadership group to ensure the best possible integration and communication of operations activities across individual program lines.
Integrate and coordinate clinical practices and operations. Implement and evaluate efficient, cost-effective patient care operations and patient flow initiatives. Oversee clinical pathway development and deployment across the clinical sites.
Provide administrative and programmatic leadership for quality, patient safety, patient experience, and professionalism issues.
Recruit, onboard, and develop clinical faculty and advanced practice providers (APP) in collaboration with the Department Chair and Department Administrator.
In collaboration with Froedtert Health’s Chief Medical Information Officer, provide strategic direction and oversight for the department’s clinical information systems.
Plan, develop, and implement departmental policies on programs of instruction and research as they relate to clinical operations.
Assure adequate physician, APP, and nursing coverage to support quality, efficient patient care in collaboration with physician leaders, nurse leaders, and administrative leaders.
Guide and participate in decisions regarding material and pharmaceutical supplies and ancillary services needed to support clinical practice/operations.
In collaboration with departmental leadership, establish projections for patient care activity and expense, partnering for development of proposals for new services or programs to support patient care operations.
In collaboration with departmental leadership, establish strategic plan for capital equipment acquisitions, facilities renovations, space allocations, and the development of capital fund requests as they relate to the clinical mission.
In collaboration with departmental leadership, assure compliance safety programs.
In collaboration with departmental leadership, assure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and licensing standards.
In coordination with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), oversee emergency preparedness and disaster readiness activities for the emergency departments in relation to Froedtert Health.
Participate in program planning and policy development for the health system.
Represent the Department at the health system and College level for all clinical operations endeavors.
Supervise all other clinical functions as assigned by Department Chair.
Will provide direct supervision to practice site Directors and other appropriate personnel. Will provide input to the Department Chair for inclusion for annual faculty reviews.
Successfully meet annual departmental staffing, operations, and patient care goals.
Successfully meet annual departmental goals for Medical College Physicians (MCP) core measures and patient experience.
Successfully complete all regulatory compliances and surveys or appropriate corrective action to address and correct any deficiencies.
Prior management and leadership experience at service chief or medical director level in an academic medical center. Successful demonstration of operational improvements in clinical operations.
Candidates should have documented accomplishments to be appointed at the Associate Professor or Professor level, with or without tenure, at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Residency-trained and board-certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or equivalent.
The candidate shall possess professional recognition within national professional and scientific organizations.
Demonstrated ethical conduct, professionalism, clear communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership and management abilities sufficient to effectively lead and develop clinical faculty and staff.
Considerable knowledge of modern management principles, practices, and methods.
Data-driven decision-making skills. Proficiency in analysis of operational data.
Proven ability to manage teams and projects successfully.
Reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine (or his or her designee). Coordinates all clinical operation budgets in collaboration with the Department Administrator of Emergency Medicine.
The Vice Chair for Clinical Operations will have appropriate negotiated protected time for administrative work and is expected to maintain clinical activity in the Emergency Department. The Vice Chair for Clinical Operations will receive appropriate professional, financial, and administrative support to successfully execute the duties of the position.
