Job Description
The Assistant VDC Field Manager is responsible for project level management, implementation and execution of McCarthy’s VDC field tools and technologies for virtual building within their assigned region.

This role will focus on the application, execution and oversight of BIM field technologies and VDC workflows related to: building documentation, site surveying, robotic digital layout and reality capture. The Assistant VDC Field Manager reports to the Regional VDC Field Manager and supports the development of VDC Field Engineers and Project Teams with mentorship guidance as applicable to their role and responsibilities.

Must be willing to travel 30%-50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

General Application
  • Project-level management of VDC Field services and deployments across the region, including consensus building and integration with all partners/peers through each process timeline.
  • Project-level oversight and execution of building documentation, reality capture, site surveying and other related workflows.
  • Lead implementation of VDC processes/tools, best practices and their related training(s) on regional initiative(s) through pro-active communication and effort to continuously improve others.
  • Creation of detailed and accurate VDC-specific schedules aligned with applicable construction activities and field coordination. Coordinate project drafting, modeling and laser scanning needs directly with project teams and update VDC Field Manager for overall regional scheduling and workload.
Laser Scanning
  • General As-Built laser scanning for site documentation
  • Field operation of a range of laser scanners – Leica, Faro, Trimble.
  • Point cloud registration in various platforms – Cyclone, Register 360, Scene, Recap, Trimble Business Center.
  • Concrete Scanning
  • Wet Pour Scanning for flatness / levelness analysis.
  • Post pour scanning for FF/FL analysis and reporting.
  • Construction Verification Scanning
  • Post install scanning to verify construction.
  • Reporting / analysis of various as-built parameters, including positional tolerance, levelness, plumbness, structural analysis, deflection.
  • Deliverable Creation
  • Create various deliverables based on project needs using a range of software tools designed to convert 3D point clouds to 2D deliverables that can be used in the field.
  • Site Verification & Control
  • Conduct initial site survey to verify provided control, building positioning, property lines, site easements, site setbacks and various range of complexities.
  • Use of a wide range of Trimble equipment and software such as Robotic Total Station
  • (RTS), GPS, and Trimble Business Center.
  • Field locate and document monument control positions.
  • Boundary Surveying
  • General project management from beginning to end:
  • Project cost estimates and proposals
  • Research – deeds, record plats, public utilities, title reports etc.
  • Field recon, traverse layout and adjustment, field notes
  • Topographic data collection
  • Data reduction and analysis
  • Boundary resolution
  • Office drafting (using Civil 3D)
  • Delivery Preparation
  • QA/QC
Robotic Layout
  • Point calculation for field layout.
  • Field Layout of model-based points from CAD/BIM files.
  • Georeferenced verification of all plan documents and digital files.
  • Data transfer and file management.
  • Support and training as needed for various projects.
  • Layout and maintain Building Control.
Tracking Metrics
  • Assist VDC Field Manager on equipment rental tracking.
  • Track implementation costs for each project through coordination with the VDC Field Manager.
  • Maintain, evaluate and report metrics to the VDC Field Manager.
  • Provide End-of-Project metric results and case studies.  Discuss and document VDC “lessons learned” and Verify/Confirm Concurrence.
Research, Development and Training
  • Participate in the development and implementation of regional goals and initiatives.
  • Conduct VDC tools/process training through various regional training opportunities.
  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related major required or equivalent years of industry field experience.
  • 5+ years’ construction experience in surveying, reality capture, construction layout and/or building documentation is required.
  • Construction field experience in Civil or Building trades is preferred.
  • Specific understanding of construction materials and methods is required.
  • Overall knowledge of building construction sequencing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Process oriented and self-motivated.
  • Enjoys training others and natural team builder.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate and document meetings/initiatives to sufficient detail.
  • Process oriented, timely, and accountable to commitments/deadlines.
  • Understanding of Preconstruction and Construction Operations business functions.
  • Team builder attitude, self-motivated problem solver, active cross-communicator/facilitator.
  • Proficient with authoring, analysis and scheduling tools such as Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Leica
  • Cyclone, FARO Scene, ClearEdge3D and other field technology-related software.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in daily documentation programs such as Microsoft
  • Office Suite, Bluebeam, or others where applicable.
  • Must be willing to travel 30%-50% of the time.
