Accounting Specialist / Staff Accountant
Job Summary: To support the Fiscal department in the processing and delivery of financial information as required by both internal and external users.
Communication: Good oral and written communication skills are required for this position. The person in this position must be able to communicate effectively with the clients, staff, and others; and contribute to a positive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process all Accounts Payable on a weekly basis.
- Process and deliver checks to both internal and external vendors.
- Process and record all funds received into the organization.
- Prepare Sales Invoice for revenue generating activities.
- Perform Account reconciliation monthly.
- Perform admin tasks related to role including Petty Cash, Token and Incentive distribution.
- Post journals to GL relating to tasks, including but not limited to journal entries associated with payroll, benefits, and CME reimbursements.
- Assists with items necessary for grants compliance, including, but not limited to review and development of grant budgets, and line items related to grant budgeting for new position salaries. Resolves vendor issues and provide yearly tax information.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and monthly monitoring of department budgets, including but not limited to budgeting for new or modified positions.
- Assists EFO with financial and other audits.
- Maintain a robust documentation system that allow for easy retrieval of supporting information.
- Provide meaningful input into department’s goal setting process.
- Provide administrative assistance and support as needed to EFO and Accounting Manager.
- Any other duties that support the department and the organization.
Education, Training, License and Certification, Skills and Experience:
- Associate/bachelor's degree in accounting
- At least two years as a Staff Accountant/AP Specialist preferably in the non-profit environment.
- Good understanding of accounting theory.
- Highly detail-oriented and organized in work.
- Communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
Clearances: Background checks are required, including Criminal Background Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Clearance.
