Job Description

The Credit Underwriters key responsibility is to assess risk in the borrowers business strategy/experience and their real estate projects/investments.

  • Prepare credit memorandums outlining the lending opportunity, key risks, mitigating factors, project/borrower/guarantor analysis, and credit advocacy.
  • Present loan opportunities to senior credit officers and/or credit committee for review and approval.
  • Work closely with Loan Originators to facilitate borrower conversations and early screening of new lending opportunities.
  • Performs various portfolio management activities including renewal/increase of borrower exposure limits, monitor covenant compliance, support problem loan management efforts, and perform various other ad hoc analysis of different industries, markets, or product types.
  • Works with Loan Originators to obtain all required due diligence items for onboarding of new clients, annual renewals and/or limit increases.
  • Analyzes legal documentation such as corporate entity documents to understand borrower structure and works with the Client Entity Management Associate for AML/KYC. Loan documents may also need to be reviewed.
  • Perform credit analysis evaluating the applicants credit worthiness, financial strength, and loan repayment likelihood/capacity.
  • Conduct market analyses and review real estate appraisals.
  • Update pipeline activity and unique loan scenarios via systematic, daily, weekly, monthly and/or quarterly reporting to VP of Credit Underwriting, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Credit Officer, Senior Credit Officer, and Capital Credit and Executive Committees.
  • Leverages data and technology to enhance and monitor the risk management of the company at the loan, portfolio, and company levels.
  • Work with all departments including sales, loan operations, valuations, accounting, construction, and other support staff.


Qualifications

  • Experience working in real estate construction, architecture, or engineering
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures to control risk and improve performance
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, and accomplished presentation skills
  • Knowledge of real estate lending and financial structuring.
  • Industry knowledge of credit and financial analysis fundamentals, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet analysis, tax returns, profitability, liquidity, and solvency analysis.
  • Financial modeling techniques and preparation of pro-forma financial statements.
  • Knowledge of credit underwriting policies, procedures, processes, collateral valuation, and documentation
  • Highly Proficient/Advanced in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management. Strong Excel skills preferred
  • Proactive, self-starter with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Hands on experience reviewing property profile reports, appraisals, title documentation, financial documentation, credit/background reports, rehab budgets, track records and SREOs
  • Experience looking at Operating Agreements, Limited Partnership Agreements and Corporation documentation
  • Bachelors Degree required
