Organizational Summary

This individual would be working to support three foundations, Massachusetts Military Support Foundation Inc. (MMSFI), Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, Inc. (CCMSFI), and USA Veteran and Military Support Foundation, Inc. (USAVMSFI). These three foundations support military families and veterans throughout Cape Cod, Massachusetts and New England.

Job Summary

Reporting to and working closely with the President/CEO, the Director of Development (DOD) will develop and oversee a communications plan and comprehensive multi-year strategy to advance the three foundation's development goals. This individual must have a track record of successful fundraising, be creative and entrepreneurial, and display outstanding leadership and communication skills. Together with the President/CEO and the Board of Trustees, the DOD is responsible for raising $700K-$1M annually through a diversified portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation funders. The DOD will supervise a part-time grant writer.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel is required in order to develop relationships with donors, prospects and corporations in the five major regions that we serve which include Boston, North Shore, Central MA , Western MA and Cape Cod.
  • Develop a multi-year fundraising strategy addressing annual giving, major gifts, foundation and corporate grants, and events to increase philanthropic support; set goals, track progress and provide periodic reports
  • Develop and implement a communications strategy for organizational advancement
  • Build and implement a major gifts program, including research, moves management and stewardship strategies; manage a portfolio of major donors
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporate, foundation, and individual donors and new prospects
  • Oversee grant writer in development, drafting, and submission of grant proposals, reports and budgets
  • Prepare and steward grant contracts
  • Track grant expenditures in collaboration with program staff and the finance department
  • Guide and support MMSFI’s President/CEO, Board of Directors, and staff in donor identification, cultivation, and solicitation
  • Plan and oversee organization’s special events
  • Develop annual fundraising goals with the President/CEO
  • Maintain donor information in database including contact information, dates of and notes from meetings, reporting due dates and submission dates, correspondence with donor staff, etc.
  • Manage and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the President/CEO

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in development
  • Experience in the planning and successful implementation of a multi-faceted development program as well as working knowledge of all aspects of development, including major giving, annual giving, on-line giving, event management, and institutional giving (including corporate and foundation grants)
  • Strong track record in major gifts and closing at the 5-figure level and above
  • Experience with corporate sponsorships
  • Military background and/or experience working with military and veteran populations preferred

Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues, donors and prospects
  • Working knowledge of and comfort with fundraising database management
  • Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and able to prioritize competing assignments and deliver quality results on deadline
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteers, including board members, providing them with support and guidance.

Compensation:

This is an exempt full-time position and requires travel and availability for occasional evening and weekend work. MMSFI is an equal opportunity employer.
