POSITION OVERVIEW

The Veteran Employment Supportive Services Specialist (VESSS) role processes supportive service requests for veteran participants according to their individual employment plan, and in compliance with the grant’s budget narrative, to remove barriers to employment. Provides community resources and referrals to resolve participant’s barriers. Works closely with program manager and fiscal department to ensure grant funds are utilized per grant requirements and to support accurate spending of grant funds.
Performs on-going follow up and case management to maintain contact to ensure retention.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process and distribute supportive service requests relating to transportation, work fees, tools, clothing, training, minor car repair, childcare and work-related needs.
- Provide referrals to community resources and veteran service organizations for assistance.
- Maintain budget management with program manager.
- Maintain electronic and hard copy files, update resource database, and assist with quarterly reporting to Department of Labor.
- Conduct individual and group presentations, complete research, and outreach to events to obtain resources and training opportunities.
- Process expenditures for supplies, staff travel, staff training request and maintain equipment.
- Function as the point of contact when program manager is out of the office.
- Create and maintain community partnerships for resources, veteran services, and training opportunities.
- Must have reliable transportation since travel is required.
- This position renews annually if the grant is renewed.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this job classification.
REQUIRED SKILLS, CAPABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE
- Education and/or Experience: A master’s degree, preferably in social services, business administration, vocational rehabilitation, special education, substance equivalent experience. Previous work experience and interest in homeless services or other direct social services.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organization and time management skills required.
- The ability to provide counseling and case management to culturally sensitive groups.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
- TB Test
- Must be able to pass background screening, finger printing and drug test.
- Must have a good 3-year Motor Vehicle Report.
- Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 6:00pm, occasional weekend or evening event
- Face mask worn in workplace when with others.
