We are looking for a Diesel Technician/Mechanic to join our team!
Responsibilities
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle & equipment deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records. In addition to the referenced requirements the employee will also be responsible, but not limited to the items below:
o Ensure all safety standards are upheld. PPE is worn at all times when you are outside of your truck
o Participate in all of shop’s weekly safety meetings
o Determines vehicle & equipment conditions by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
o Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
o Corrects vehicle & equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
o Verifies vehicle & equipment performances by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
o Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
o Maintains vehicle & equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
o Maintains vehicle & equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
o Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
o Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
o Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
o Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
o Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
o Maintain upkeep on shop/working area to comply with Martin’s image standards daily.
o If a company truck is driven a pre-trip and post trip inspection must be logged.
This position reports directly to the Shop Manager with a dotted line of responsibility to the General Superintendent.
Minimum Requirements
o Extensive Knowledge of mechanics on diesel equipment and vehicles
o Ability to pass pre-hire and random drug screenings
o High school diploma or general educational degree (GED)
o Valid state driver’s license with no serious traffic offenses within the last 3 years
o Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, road signs, and operating and maintenance instructions
o Ability to occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
In addition to the above listed minimum requirements, candidates who possess the following skills, experience, and capabilities may receive greater consideration during the evaluation process:
o OSHA Certification
o Degree/diploma in mechanics
