What youll be doing
A water Quality Inspector is responsible for performing technical and program administration duties and support of the Water Quality Unit. Work involves continual learning to understand and stay current on regulations, procedural updates, and water quality issues. If assigned to water sampling you are responsible for obtaining water samples from a variety of sources including well sites, the distribution system, reservoirs, treatment plants, and customers homes. You will also be responsible for making arrangement with laboratories, reviewing all results for accuracy, and generating compliance reports. In addition, employees prepare water sampling plans, maintain program compliance with federal and state requirements and write associated compliance reports.
You will be responsible for
Maintaining and operating plant equipment, advanced water treatment system and wastewater.
Operating valves, gates, and pumps; adjusting flow rates and chemical feed rate.
Collecting samples and submitting for laboratory testing.
Be able to walk/be on feet for long periods at a time.
Maintaining written data on test results, gauges, and meter readings correctly.
Ability to distinguish between varying shades of bright pink/red (chlorine residual testing) and yellow.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preparing written logs.
Performs related duties as required.
What skills experience youll bring to us
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Good (1-3 years) experience with water treatment, backflow, water distribution system, or a closely related area.
Must meet the physical standards and requirements for the wearing of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory.
Must obtain a Grade I (or higher) Water Treatment or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) or equivalent certification from another state through reciprocity with Arizona by application date. Certification through reciprocity must be obtained within 3 months of hire or promotion.
Must hold a valid Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester Certification by application date.
Forty-hour HazWoper Certification is required within 18 months of hire date.
Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License.
What you need to know
Hourly Pay $22.48
Up to 5 Days, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Flexible, Temporary up to 1 year with option to extend
Location varies based on assignment
