Nature of Work: The Manitowish Waters Chamber operates within acommunity-minded framework and strives to promote its members andthe community as THE destination to live, work and play. The Chambercreates strong working relationships with members, volunteers, partners,and the Town Board and citizens in an effort to provide quality service toour members, visitors and the Town of Manitowish Waters. TheExecutive Director is responsible for the effective overall operation ofChamber affairs, and provides visionary leadership to the developmentand management of the Chamber's role and responsibilities within thecommunity and beyond.
Overview: The Executive Director position, at its core, is responsible foroverseeing the coordination of the existing operations of the Chamber. The ED develops and promotes events and functions, communicates withthe membership and the public on needs, ideas, and opportunities, anddevelops and implements an annual budget and organizational plan thatadvances the general welfare and prosperity of Manitowish Waters andour Chamber membership. The ED is enthusiastic, creative, and wellorganized, and is an excellent communicator capable of functioning wellin an independent environment.
Essential Functions: This position is responsible for, and will gainexperience in, the following areas:
1. Develop an annual plan.
Work with the Board and relevant committees to develop andpresent a plan of operation, which includes event goals anddates, membership targets, an overall communications andadvertising calendar, and an annual budget. Utilize Bylaws,precedence and evaluations as planning and implementationtools.
2. Develop, grow, and nurture Chamber relationships tomembers; partners, Board, visitors and volunteers.
Keep consistent, strong lines of communication open between allparties, with a special emphasis on member input and feedback,congenial and timely visitor interactions, and community andtourism related groups and individuals. Facilitate annualmembership campaign, member visits, and new memberwelcomes. Involve volunteers in events, projects and in creativeways to further the goals of the organization and to buildrelationships. Provide the Board of Directors, and others asappropriate with the leadership and tools they need to buildmembership and relationships. Become familiar with the services and offerings of the Town and Chamberbusinesses/services, and share this information in appropriatesettings and via a variety of inquiry methods. Coordinatemembership gatherings and an annual membership dinner.
3. Manage functions and events in safe and successfulmanner with assistance and involvement from partners,volunteers, staff, members, Board, and the Town of Manitowish Waters. Provide new event ideas and partnership sponsorshipopportunities to the Board of Directors. Seek out and apply for grants to support existing and new events andinitiatives.
4. Coordinate branding and marketing efforts that build ManitowishWaters as THE destination to live, work and play.
Create and disseminate materials to heighten tourism andrevitalization efforts. Notify membership of co-op advertisingand outreach promotional opportunities. Prepare, execute andtrack the annual Chamber communications and advertisingcalendar, and maintain a consistent print, online and socialmedia presence.
5. Ensure organizational structure and procedures.
Operate the Chamber in accordance with the Bylaws and existingpolicies. Review and recommend modification or development ofpolicies. Oversee income and expenditures, ensure timelypayment on all invoices and tax payouts. Responsible for hiring,supervision and training of administrative staff. Manage openhours with Board of Director approval.
Essential Outcomes: As a result of successfully achieving goals in this position:
The Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce will further the interests of Chamber member businesses and will, through strategic efforts and planning, highlight the Town's assets in order toencourage tourism and economic development.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in leisure tourism, publicrelations, or a closely related field; or at least three years ofexperience in a related field of work.
Special Skills: Demonstrated interest in the community and businesses of Manitowish Waters. Reliable, self-motivated, ability to motivate others and outgoing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong networking skills and leadership. Basic office skills.
Certifications and licenses: Valid driver's license required.
Status: Full-time, salaried exempt.
