We provide Scientific, Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, VA. For sixty years, DARPA has held to a singular and enduring mission: to make pivotal investments in breakthrough technologies for national security.

We are seeking a Research Chemist (Technical SETA) in the Defense Sciences Office (DSO) to support and lead activities in project management, technical and programmatic risk analysis, and program-funded test coordination. The Tech SETA will also be responsible for coordinating meetings, assessing performer technical progress, projecting performer outcomes, and ensuring that project management best practices are followed by performers, independent verification and validation (IV&V) entities funded by DARPA, and within DARPA itself.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead periodic (monthly or bi-weekly) performer assessments to analyze program, technical and schedule risks; develop risk mitigation strategies; communicate findings to program manager
  • Evaluate and guide technical reports, briefings, and other performer communications
  • Engage stakeholders and collaborators across the various DoD agencies and services
  • Shape and oversee early operational analysis
  • Administer programs, including development of technical analyses, identification of technology gaps, technical risk management, project cost estimation, technology transfer efforts, as well as supporting technical reviews
  • Prepare DARPA work products including presentations and reports
  • Attend and organize program reviews/site visits/field tests
  • Support further research solicitation development and source selection activities associated with lidar systems and signal processing

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 7 years of experience with any combination of synthetic, porous, and solid materials engineering
  • Experience with fuel cell materials development


Clearance Requirements:
  • DoD Secret clearance required


Desired capabilities and characteristics:
  • Combination of experience in porous materials for adsorption, separation; solid materials for gas adsorption; synthetic materials chemistry; developing materials for engineering applications, with specific applications in the field of Chemical Engineering, and thermal and pressure management
  • Combination of experience in solid oxide fuel cell catalyst development; fuel cell material development; catalysis to produce fuels; carbon capture methods leveraging catalysis; CO2 reduction for carbon capture
  • Experience in engineering and complex system design, prototype design using standard modeling and engineering design software tools


Physical Requirements:
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office
  • The person in this position will need to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer
