We are seeking Apprentice Technicians to learn a wide range of diagnostic and maintenance skills on class 7 and 8 vehicles. Under the supervision of an experienced mechanic, you will receive hands on experience performing routine maintenance on diesel engine semi tractors as well as diagnostic and repair. You will become familiar with the mechanical and technical aspect; using diagnostic computer software on our advanced vehicles to identify issues. This position will also give you experience with various welders and tools used in making all types of repairs on all types of semi-trailers.
Pay: $22.00 to $27.00 depending on experience and certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and all types of class 7 and 8 tractors, trailers, and other equipment such as forklifts.
- Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required
- Repair, a wide variety of diesel engines in transportation vehicles and dock equipment
- Follow company protocol when checking lights, tires, greasing, adjusting brakes, and checking framework on Trailers.
- Repair or replace ignition parts, diesel injectors and carburetors
- Repair or replace faulty parts including wheel bearings, shock absorbers, oil seals, emission systems, exhaust systems, generators, distributors, lights, and switches
- Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
- Use of welding equipment to Perform all types of welding (i.e. aluminum, steel, and stainless steel)
- Change oil, air, and fuel filters.
- Use of handle tools such as Brake drum dolly, creepers, man lift/scissor lift.
- Remove, repair, and mount tires and maintain the tire inventory
- Maintain records of time and materials used on each job, the condition of the equipment, and the repairs performed
- Use of computer to login/log out orders and invoices.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
- Move trailers throughout the property
- Participate in training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled in a mechanic trade program or have a technical degree
- Must be able to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures to ensure proper techniques, such as lifting, are performed in the manner as which is described.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public, read orders and work instructions, and make accurate entries in the daily log.
- Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- 1 year of experience in general heavy truck repair, automotive repair, or equipment repair; equivalent trade school/technical school time may be applied toward this requirement
- A valid driver's license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time
- Ability to frequently lift up to 58 lbs from 0" to 36" and carry objects up to 50 feet. Occasionally lift up to 80 lbs
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl frequently to work on vehicles and equipment
- Ability to frequently twist, push, and pull from a variety of positions to work on equipment. Ability to frequently grip and grasp mechanic tools and parts. Manipulative skills and dexterity to operate equipment and hand tools
- Ability to frequently climb to get in vehicles, on a step ladder to reach the engine compartment and stairs
- Ability to climb and work up to 15" above ground may be required
- Ability to reach frequently overhead as well as horizontally while laying on back
