Magnitude Instruments is a technology company based in State College, PA that has revolutionized nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy by developing instruments with orders of magnitude higher sensitivity and faster scan times. This game-changing technology, for the first time, allows all chemists, materials scientists, physicists, and biologists to makes these types of time-resolved measurements right out of the box with Magnitude Instruments' benchtop spectrometers. These products are currently helping to fuel the future of renewable energy and high technology and are in high demand in university research labs, national labs, and in the electronic materials industry.
  • This is an onsite position at our company’s headquarters. Regular on-going day and overnight travel is required on a regular basis with some international travel. Having a valid driver's license, a registered and insured vehicle, and the ability to drive to and from prospective/current accounts or other business events is necessary; must also be able to travel by common carrier air and/or train for prospect/customer site visits and industry tradeshows and other events.

  • Assisting in sales strategy development/implementation of our transient absorption product lines; this includes working with others to plan for commercialization, upgrades, and/or new applications; forecasting annual, quarterly, and monthly sales revenue; designing tactical plans that result in securing fully executed sales contracts; and taking ownership of all sales activities that support and meet/exceed those goals.
  • Driving marketing and sales by interfacing with customers at in-person events, giving technical talks, presentations, and product demonstrations; drafting educational/training materials such as videos, webinars, white papers, tutorials, and manuals; coordinating ongoing R&D activities for new products and upgrades to current products based on customer feedback.
  • Writing grant proposals with a focus on Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants in support of R&D projects.
  • Providing pre-sale and post-sale technical support.
  • Documenting and reporting back to the entire sales teams on the requirements of customers and planning and modifying product configurations to support customers needs.
  • Assisting in the establishment and management of a sales channel/distribution network.
  • Producing timely, accurate sales reports, pipeline information, and other business developments and sales metrics
  • Keeping informed on industry news and trends, products, services, competitors, information, about relative existing and emerging technologies and the lates product line developments.
  • Developing effective training procedures for global distributors.
  • Fostering and maintaining close working relationships with colleagues, industry partners, clients, and other professional associations that align with company values and mission.

  • PhD degree from an accredited four-year college or university in any one of the disciplines of Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, or another physical science or engineering field.
  • 2+ years’ experience designing, building, and maintaining photonics systems used in time-resolved spectroscopy.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the theory and practice of time-resolved spectroscopy, as well as various types of commercially available instrumentation and techniques related to transient absorption.
  • Have experience working with lasers and laser systems.
  • Have a general understanding of the operation of electronic devices such as operational amplifiers, oscilloscopes, and photodetectors.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently to meet/exceed company goals.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships with others, especially business decision-makers and selection committee members is key.
  • Effective, persuasive, and compelling communications skills are critical, as are social perceptiveness and active listening skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; business acumen, high attention to detail, superb follow-up, and time management skills are essential.
  • High comfort level with software and spreadsheets, including use of financial, metric-driven performance reporting, all Microsoft office products, on-line calendar and meeting tools, smart phones, CRM, and a wide variety of other technology tools.
  • Background checks (criminal/education/employment/reference/credit/DMV) will be performed; results must be satisfactory to the company.
