Linux System Administrator

Job Description:

MTS STAFF is looking to hire a mid-senior level Linux System Administrator for a client located in Washington, DC. This is a short term contract position (3-6 months but may extend longer). Position: Linux System Administrator

Location: Washington, DC. (REMOTE)

Clearance: Candidates must be US Citizens or permanent residents

Duration:3-6 month contract (possible extension)

Responsibilities

The position will be focused on:

-patching Linux servers

- documentation and providing logs upon request from the Application programmers and developers

-analyzing Rapid7 vulnerability reports

-work through Sys-test and UAT on vulnerability remediation.

Essential Job Functions

• Analyzes, logs, tracks and resolves complex software/hardware matters of significance pertaining to networking connectivity issues, printers, servers, and applications to meet business needs.
  

• Coordinates hardware/software installations and upgrades to ensure work is properly performed according to company policy. Recommends resolution to complex matters of significance and coordinates the implementation of the approved course of action.
  

• Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common system problems; documents system events to ensure continuous functioning. Recommends course of action and implements as approved.
  

• Oversees the installation of client department-specific applications and systems. Ensures installations are according to appropriate operating procedures; determines revisions or updates to installation as needed.
  

• Coordinates testing, upgrades and configuration of system files and services. Ensures changes are according to appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results. Prepares for and prescribes approaches to possible downstream implications.
  

• Utilizes standard corporate tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes
  

Qualifications:

• 6-10 years of experience as a Linux/Unix Systems Admin.
  

• Experience with
  

• Oracle Solaris: Unix operating system
  

• Writing/Modifying shell scripts
  

• Red Hat (6, 7, 8)
  

• Web Logic
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: Red Hat Cert.; COMPTIA Sec +; etc
  

• Associates or Bachelors degree
