Position Summary We are seeking a Corporate Senior Accountant to join our team. This position will perform all complex accounting functions of the department through preparation of accounting transactions, financial statements, reconciliations and analysis; prepares significant estimates and calculations for consolidated financial statements; performs analytics and technical research, when needed.
Assists in the preparation of internal and external reporting documents and management of audits. Responsibilities Accounting / Financial Reporting: According to generally accepted accounting principles, will assist in preparation of standard and specialized financial reports (i.e., balance sheets, income statements, investment rollforwards, 10Q/10K tie-outs) and perform complex accounting functions and financial analysis to account for and summarize current company financial position at both the consolidated level as well as the financial subsidiary level. Responsible for specific areas of accounting such as Marketable Securities, Accrued Liabilities, Capitalized Interest, Payroll, Prepaid Expenses and Other Assets, Fixed assets, SG&A, Interest Income, and various miscellaneous corporate entries.Also prepares monthly analytics and flux analysis on these areas as compared to prior year results and budget.
Will assist in audits and preparations of reports for auditors and ensuring that internal controls are maintained according to SOX and company accounting standards and policies. Responsible for corporate and financial subsidiary level entity books, including preparing/reviewing journal entries, accounting for and closing of monthly books for entities such as the Airplane Company, MDC Foundation, Corporate Entity, Consolidation and the like Assists in the consolidation of company-wide financial results preparing some top side, elimination, and intercompany journal entries May assist in reviewing cash transactions, including corporate level bank reconciliations, investment bank account reconciliations (including amortization of discount/premiums, adjustments to FMV, calculation of accrued interest, etc.) Assists in preparing all consolidated and corporate level reports (i.e., balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, equity rolls, etc.) for the executive monthly reporting binder and content for the monthly Board Book Identifies and assists with financial reporting and streamlining/process improvement. Assists divisions and other corporate departments (i.e.
tax, internal audit, treasury, etc.) with requested operational or financial reporting and analysis. Performs analytical work on a corporate and consolidated basis, querying databases within Oracle business intelligence applications and TM1 database applications for analytical data and preparing analysis and reports for management as needed and on an ad-hoc basis. May assist in preparation of Guarantor and Segment financial statements for SEC reporting May assist in preparation of Borrowing Base calculations, Bank Book, and other covenant reporting analytics Performs analytical work on a company, segment and consolidated basis and prepares reports for management as needed.Prepares various monthly and quarterly consolidated financial analytics, schedules, and reports; Prepares quarterly analytics and assists with completion of PBC list items for auditors; Does ad hoc reporting.
Budgeting / Forecasting: Prepares Actual vs. Budget analysis of results at multiple entity levels Assists Corporate Accounting Manager to prepare corporate department budgets and track G&A spend results against those budgets for management reporting SEC Reporting and Sarbanes Oxley: Performs internal controls and maintains adequate documentation of controls Works with auditors to complete annual SOX audits and audit work Assists with data for footnote disclosures and supports needs of Accounting Team for quarterly and annual preparation of SEC documents;Performs 10Q / 10K tie-outs Assists with quarterly and annual financial statement audits; prepares analytics and PBC list documents Operational Support: Performs Oracle and database maintenance including E1 community / job setups for divisions and sets up accounting records such as bank accounts, chart of accounts, and address book records within the system Assists with maintaining physical and electronic files of the department Scope: Contributes through specific expertise at the enterprise level. Communicates with business partners.
Requirements Education: BA degree in accounting required. CPA required. Experience: Typically requires minimum 3-5 years of experience, including 2 years minimum in public accounting preferably from a Big 4 Accounting Firm.
Experience with publicly traded companies, audits, SOX compliance, SEC Reporting required. Publicly-traded company with corporate accounting and consolidation accounting experience preferred. Experience with GL accounting software, specifically Oracle and TM1 preferred.
Skill in: Must be detail oriented and have the ability to review, analyze and interpret results; Works independently and asks intelligent questions to ensure meeting/exceeding all expectations; Ability to learn accounting systems and the job quickly and be comfortable with tight deadlines and quick training; Must be adequately skilled in Microsoft Excel applications (i.e. Pivot Tables, Vlookup, IF Statements, etc.) and be able to do ad-hoc report building by querying databases and preparing analytics; Willing to put in the time to get the job done, have natural curiosity, eagerness, willing to help update department policies/procedures; Ability to work with team members with varying backgrounds. Good interpersonal and time management skills necessary.
