DCHC Mental Health Nurse Coordinators Needed!!

Job Description

   Minimal Qualifications:

A.    Licensedas a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia

B.    Preferred1-year management experience with at least 1 year of experience in correctionalnursing

C.    CurrentAmerican Hearth Association BLS certification

D.    Securityclearance by the Georgia Department of Corrections and Augusta University

 

 Desirable Qualifications:

A.    Preferreddegree:  BSN or Associates Degree inNursing with a BS in Administration or related field

B.    Preferred2 years management experience

C.    3years of experience as a Mental Health Nurse

D.    CCHP- MH

 

III.           General Responsibilities:

Inconjunction with the MH Regional Nurse Manager and the Director of Nursing,coordinates mental health nursing care for the MH nurse team members. Practicesdaily active visibility at the facility to monitor the care being delivered andrespond to staff needs. Plans, directs and evaluates patient care activities toassure optimal care. Maintains professional dress and action according to GDCand AU/DCHC policy and procedure; assures all staff maintain appropriateprofessional dress.

 

  Duties:

A.    Supervisesthe activities of the MH nurse team members

B.    Aidsin hiring, discipline and termination of MH nurses

C.    Coordinatesassignments of MH nurses

D.    Coordinatesorientation of all new MH nurses

E.     Assessesskills and offers training for all MH nurses annually

F.     Ensuresschedules are completed and nursing coverage is provided for the CSU units perpolicyA.    Providesoversight through monitoring activities, participating in CQI, and completingmandatory reports

G.  Providesoversight through monitoring activities, participating in CQI, and completingmandatory reports

H.    Providesstaff support when needed in the direct delivery of nursing care

 

I.               Physical Effort:

A.    Mustbe able to lift 50 lbs

B.    Normalbending, reaching, stooping

C.    Sittingand standing for long periods of time

D.    Mustbe able to move quickly across the compound in cases of emergency

E.     Normallevels of hearing and seeing, if necessary, with corrective appliances

 

II.             Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

A.    Organizationand decision-making skills

B.    Abilityto work under pressure, must relate well to patients, security staff, visitorsand co-workers

C.    Knowledgeof the Rules and Regulations regarding the practice of nursing in the state ofGeorge (Georgia Nurse Practice Act)

D.    Flexibilityand adaptability in dealing with sudden changes in schedules and/or workenvironments

E.     Knowledgeof OSHA, NCCHC, ACA, TJC and other regulatory patient and safety standards

F.     Abilityto exhibit leadership, characterized by substantial and continuousresponsibility and accountability, for integrated programs that cross serviceand/or discipline lines, influencing the organization’s mission and health caredelivery.

G.    Demonstratepositive communication skills, sharing information clearly and concisely.

H.    Displaythe ability to foster positive working relationships with management andleadership across all disciplines as well as with nursing at all levels

I.      Soundwritten and verbal communication skills

J.      Understandingof Mental Health disorders, their signs and symptoms, current preferred treatments,complications noted.

K.    Knowledgeof current formulary and methods of obtaining exceptions.

L.     Otherduties as assigned.
