MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer for a client located in Urbandale, IA. Our client is a well-known and highly respected Industrial organization seeking bright, tech-savvy talent.

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing and developing manufacturing processes, equipment and assembly cells for new product launches serving the automotive industry. Responsibilities include project planning, process flow optimization, lean assembly line design and installation in accordance with product technical, quality and delivery requirements as well as adhering to automotive APQP standards. Position is onsite in Urbandale, IA.


  • Product and process specifications: Develops, creates and modifies specifications of components, subassemblies, and manufacturing processes and equipment. Verifies engineering standards and guidelines are applied correctly. Capable of reviewing and translating requirements of internal and external specifications.
  • Problem solving: Provide technical leadership and support team through systematic problem solving. Troubleshooting of design and process issues during development or manufacturing using applicable methodologies.
  • Engineering changes: Develops, tracks, and implements design and process changes in order to reduce cost and/or improve product quality.
  • Estimation and Reporting: Provides estimates for completion of assigned tasks and reports own progress.
  • Subject matter expert: Mastery level expertise in various specialty competencies, including state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing and validation methods. expert. Continuously develops own knowledge through technical journals, seminars, advanced degree programs. Monitors relevant internal/external developments, translates them into solution/methodologies for own expertise area. Is an ambassador for this expertise area in order to maintain and improve the knowledge base.
  • Concept development: Translates requirements (internal/external) into initial concept design for manufacturing process. Ensures the best concepts are selected with respect to project objectives (cost, performance, quality, lead time and risk).
  • Build relationships: Builds and maintains relationships with key customers, suppliers and knowledge institutes as related to job duties.
  • Design review: Participates in design reviews throughout new product development cycle and provides feedback and direction within field of expertise.
  • Equipment Design: Conceptualizes mechanical, electromechanical, electrohydraulic, fluid handling and pneumatic machinery systems. Translates requirements of test systems or mechanical assembly processes into safely functioning tooling and equipment by specifying and fabricating various subsystems and incorporating readily available industrial products and instruments.

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing process design
  • Solid modeling experience required, knowledge of Solidworks required
  • Proficiency in production line design and documentation, Process Flow Charts, Work Instructions, Control Plans, PFMEAs.
  • Working knowledge and application of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools such as 5S, Kaizen, VSM and others.
  • Technical aptitude in hydrualics, pneumatics, electrical, mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of control systems (PLC, LabView, Digital Logic, or similar)
  • Experience in the automotive industry or similar field adhering to ISO/IATF requirements, using phased gate development procedures, and process in accordance with APQP/VDA standards
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
  • Strong leadership and people skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Data driven ability to make timely decisions
  • Knowledge and understanding of 8D, A3, Fishbone Diagram and Why-Why problem-solving processes is required.
