Provide day-to-day leadership direction and support for multi-line plant engaged in 24/7 operations. In concert with QA guidelines, develop processes and procedures to ensure all CCP's are continually met and monitored. Work closely with QA and Tech Services on development and implementation of SOP's that align and meet the requirements of HACCP, GMP's, SQF, Organic, Kosher and Non-GMO programs.
Understand, support and drive all activities for Food and Human Safety on the processing and manufacturing floor. Develop staffing schedules that maximize effectiveness and efficiency of blending, processing and filling operations with appropriate quantity of labor to maximize production and minimize overtime. Participate in hiring, training and mentoring of supervisory staff to achieve department goals.
Participate in production variance investigations as well as in productivity and quality improvement projects together with other departments. Monitor and improve processes to minimize losses and lower associated cost with respect to ingredient conversion, processing and filler sterility and CIP sequences. Work with Automation/Engineering to identify and improve processes that minimize sterility risks and improve up-time.
Assist in compliance audits with plant regulatory agencies (FDA, SQF, WDACP, USDA, OSHA, EPA). Responsible for leading change and driving compliance with all Lyons manufacturing floor improvement processes and plant floor data acquisition programs. Support and implement all company improvement efforts to reduce waste, improve raw material conversion, improve employee safety performance and improve on-time product completion service to warehousing department.
Work closely with HR department on Safety initiatives, payroll, policy modifications or recommendations and training Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills that foster an environment of trust, respect and integrity. Experience with Low Acid Aseptic foods, SQF, HACCP and food safety systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment knowledge in a sterile plant setting required.
Ability to read, follow and comprehend documents such as standard operating procedures, specifications and equipment manuals. Knowledge of product flow, sterile food processing, raw material conversion, inventory and roll fed packaging systems. Ability to work in a fast paced and growing environment where accountability, quality, timeliness are key components.
Performs work in collaborative manner - must be a team player. Ability to interact effectively at all levels of an organization. Bachelor's degree in Food Science or related field and 5+ years' experience leading teams in a low acid food production environment.
