Senior Project Architect
Charlotte, NC - Architecture/Engineering
The Project Architect serves as the leader of the project team and is responsible for all phases of programming, design and team coordination associated with the project as well as representing the company to the client. The Project Architect is an experienced, registered design professional having a strong background in generating and translating concepts into final solutions, in directing a project design teams and in presenting these solutions to our clients.
GENERAL SKILLS
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficient in current version of Revit, Sketch Up, Photoshop, Illustrator
- Working knowledge of 3D Modeling software
- Substantial experience in project management
- Sufficient knowledge of engineering disciplines, able to evaluate and coordinate consultant work
- Experience integrating and coordinating all disciplines into the building project
- Knowledge of building materials, specification and construction techniques
- Excellent visual and oral presentation skills
- Experience working with a design-build project delivery system
- Experience with the development of project cost estimates and general knowledge of value engineering techniques
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work independently and provide guidance and supervision of team members
- Ability to organize and prioritize personal workload and make necessary adjustments in meeting strict deadlines
- Strong communication skills to work with clients, field personnel and internal departments in achieving deadlines and quality work
- Maintain continual client contact from CD's through construction to ensure expected deliverables are met
- Maintain quality control of the design function
- Carry out the overall architectural design of the project, utilizing the assigned project design team
- Integrate and coordinate all disciplines into the building project
- Meet the design schedule and design construction budget
Schematic Design and Design Development Phase:
- Participate in Discovery sessions and in the development of the design brief
- Prepare a written program with client in collaboration with the client management team
- Develop total architectural solution (budget, deliverables and schedule)
- Develop conceptual site plan, through consultation with civil engineers
- Assist in coordination of due diligence services
- Develop submittal packages for local planning commission approvals
- Research and select basic materials, and develop basic exterior wall sections and critical details
- Consult with engineers in selection of structural, mechanical and electrical systems
- Research and interpret all applicable codes and regulations
- Prepare Outline Specification
- Supervise preparation of all necessary materials and exhibits for all design presentations
Construction Documents Phase:
- Establish labor requirements and assign architectural drafting work, as applicable, in collaboration with the Director of Production
- Provide design input and oversight of the development of working drawings
- Ensure that office architectural design policies, procedures and standards are followed
- Gather material information from vendors and suppliers relative to the project
- Regularly review status of working drawings to be sure details are well thought-out, that drafters are not being delayed due to lack of information and that all drawings are being completed on schedule
- Attend all meetings as necessary
- Coordinate architectural design with all engineering design disciplines
- Review architectural specification and provide comments as needed
- Coordinate and assist in the selection of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Perform final check and coordination of all working drawings
Bidding Phase:
- Be available for questions
- Prepare architectural portions of ASI, as necessary through coordination with production team
Construction Phase:
- Determine that office set of CDs is up to date at all times
- Revise all shop drawings and samples as required and assure that all drawings and samples are processed expeditiously
- Make periodic site visits to observe the progress and character of the work (40% and final walk-thru)
- Prepare a field report for distribution to team
- Assure that all modifications and drawings are reviewed and fully coordinated within the team
- Provide construction team with Certificate of Substantial Completion
- Assist in the development of ASI's
- Coordinate & respond to RFI's
- Assist in development of punch list
EXPECTATIONS
- Limited overnight travel
- Ability to coordinate multiple project
- Self-starter, team player/coach
- Maintain strong relationship with client throughout the duration of the project
- Mentor junior staff
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREREQUISTIES
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field required
- Master's degree in Architecture or related field preferred
- 5 years or more of professional experience in commercial Architecture & Development required
- LEED accreditation is preferred
