General Information

Lumitron provides lighting components for the aerospace and defense markets. Main products are optical filters, precision machined and assembled with subminiature incandescent lamps or light emitting diodes (LEDs) for use in illuminated avionic displays.

 

Job Description

We are looking for an engineering professional to join our engineering design and production team to help develop and manufacture new lighting components that must meet military and commercial aerospace requirements. The position demands an energetic and creative individual with a strong interest in product development paired with a firm foundation in mechanical and/or electronics engineering or CNC programming. Familiarity with the fundamentals of light measurement and optics a plus. The position seeks an individual who possesses the skills for future key leadership roles in the organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Product design and development including verification, validation, and First Article Inspection.
  • Writing G-code to operate benchtop Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining of subminiature lighting components including precision machined optical filters.
  • Monitoring and inspecting light measurement (radiance/luminance/chromaticity) for optical filters for aerospace and defense applications including night vision imaging systems.
  • Creating and drafting SolidWorks controlled engineering drawings.
  • Defining and drafting CNC and assembly work orders per controlled engineering drawings.
  • Creating new and monitoring and evaluating existing SPC process-control techniques, i.e., Pareto Charts, Histograms, and Cause & Effect Diagrams.
  • Planning, coordinating, scheduling, and conducting detailed phases of mechanical engineering and/or electronics engineering projects.
  • Evaluating new materials and monitoring and improving thermal management.
  • Monitoring and evaluating and improving production tooling design and technique.
  • Interface with customers and customer engineering teams to help develop new products and/or problem-solving quality or performance issues with current products.
  • Willingness to travel for onsite company visits or attend industry functions.
  • Willingness to accept company sponsored membership in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and attend and participate in SAE A20 subcommittee meetings.


NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend educational workshops or courses related to improving professional growth and job functions when possible.

Education and Work Requirements
• High school diploma or GED and 1 - 5 years related experience and/or technical training
or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• English / Bilingual Spanish a plus.

• Basic Windows operating system computer skills
• Experience with hand tools
• Excellent eye-hand coordination and dexterity
• Attention to detail
• Pride in workmanship
• Basic math skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English.
