Job Description

Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for developing, leading and executing purchasing strategies. This role will oversee a team of buyers responsible for demand forecasting, supply planning, and execution. The successful candidate must be able to perform strategic procurement activities for a national distribution network across multiple product categories. The Purchasing Manager works onsite at either of our Laurel, Maryland or Houston, Texas support offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
  • Oversee a team of Buyers with strong leadership; monitor daily workflow, scheduling, performance evaluations, employee development and policy enforcement
  • Maintain a company average fill rate in excess of 98%
  • Manage inventory levels to satisfy enterprise inventory turn objectives
  • Optimize internal transfer paths and frequency to minimize internal freight cost
  • Assess, manage and mitigate supply risks
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis and benchmarking
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions
  • Collaborate with strong partnership with Lowe’s on all integration initiatives
  • Assess current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Draft, explain, and implement instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management
  • Resolve grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration, or equivalent work experience
  • 5 + years of proven working experience as a Purchasing Manager, Agent or Officer
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management
  • Interest in market dynamics along with business sense
  • A knack for negotiation and networking
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures
  • Solid judgement and decision making skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • The selected candidate must be able to work onsite in either our Laurel, Maryland or Houston, Texas support offices.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
