Director of Supportive Services

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) develops, owns, and operates housing for homeless and low-income families and individuals, provides technical assistance to communities and other non-profits, and advocates for housing justice. It also develops, operates and manages homeless encampments in Seattle.
The Supportive Services Director supervises case management, serves as a resource for case management staff, implements, monitors, and evaluates methods for service delivery, and collaborates with LIHI Supportive Services and Housing Management staff to maintain stable tenant households in all LIHI properties. This position will be sited in the downtown Seattle area, with program oversight responsibilities at multiple LIHI projects around Puget Sound.
•Master of Social Work is required.
•Mental Health Counselor Associate, Social Work Associate Advanced, or equivalent experience and willingness to obtain new State credential.
•Case management experience is required.
•Minimum four years experience supervising direct service staff.
•Experience and commitment to working with homeless or low-income populations, including persons with mental health, physical disability, and substance abuse issues. As well as knowledge of local resources for homeless, low-income, and elderly people.
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to work well with community agencies and resources.
•Current Washington State driver’s license or willingness to obtain.
Staff Support, Training, and Supervision
•Supervise and direct Community Support Case Management staff.
•Pursue progressive employee evaluation and development.
•Develop and expand Community Support program model at LIHI housing properties, in collaboration with Supportive Services and Housing Management staff.
•Develop and expand resident programs and plans that are appropriate for specific housing projects, and which address tenant needs. Determine feasibility, demand, appropriateness, and capacity to sustain programs for the long-term.
•Oversee, maintain and review case management records for quality assurance, training, and data management purposes.
•Participate in program evaluation and best practice development, including input from residents, Housing Management staff, other staff and volunteers.
•Conduct staff meetings and planning sessions, and facilitate Resident Council and tenant community meetings as needed.
•Oversee, maintain and direct case management staff and operations at homeless encampments.
•Oversee Volunteer and Advocacy Coordinator.
•Build effective relationships with residents.
•Become knowledgeable of information and referral resources. Provide information and referral to residents, including through distribution of written material, and ensuring access to online resources.
•Maintain updated information tools for tenant use in accessing community resources.
•Formally and informally assess tenants as to current level of functioning and social service needs.
•Offer case management and service planning for selected residents, either referred by building management as at risk of eviction, or self-identified.
•Make referrals or initiate services to address mental health, substance abuse, chemical dependency, or disability issues wherever possible.
•Coordinate with local agencies to ensure adequate supports to meet the needs of LIHI residents.
•Work collaboratively with building management and Supportive Services staff to increase stability and retention of tenants in LIHI housing.
•Coordinate with community organizations, public agencies, and volunteers to ensure access to on- and off-site activities for residents.
•Initiate and encourage resident involvement in community-building activities, such as community meetings, meals, and support groups.
•Produce as-needed written materials, including community newsletters.
•Contribute to the development of resident communities that value cultural diversity.
Grants and Advocacy
•Assist and direct grant writing efforts.
•Participate in fundraising for LIHI Supportive Services by providing information and feedback for grant applications, and helping maintain and grow community contacts.
•Participate in public policy advocacy efforts including recruiting residents to attend public meetings and testify at hearings.
