Job Description:

System Engineer, Linux/Unix

• Troubleshoot historical and real-time database bottlenecks
• Provide recommendations on database modifications to improve application performance
• Assist the team in isolating application performance issues to the correct sub-team (DB, OS, Network, SAN)
• Develop and drive application enhancements and automation tool enhancements
• Work independently and with vendors to stay abreast of performance related changes and improvements
• Provide risk assessment for application support parameter changes

Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science or related field w/8+ years of experience in DevOps or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field w/2+ years of experience in DevOps OR Associate's Degree or higher and/or 5-15 years (years in place of Bachelors or Masters degree)
• Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments which are broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.
• Has the ability to apply a comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments. Plans and leads major technology assignments.
• Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success.
• Functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments. May supervise others.
• Must have working experience with virtualization in the vSphere, AWS, azure cloud environments
• Must have working experience with Dell Blade racks and other Dell equipment
• Must have extensive experience in UNIX, RedHat Linux (rhel7 and rhel8) and Oracle operating system products
• Requires extensive knowledge of Ansible, Python, Java, and Bash Scripting
• Requires knowledge of application engine internals, such as Apache and Tomcat
• Database experience is preferred, as well as familiarity with the Agile development lifecycle
• Participate in rotating on-call for after-hours Linux and application support
