Job Description: Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing a new class of flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage, and seeks a Research Engineer to provide research support for the flow battery development program. The work responsibilities for this position include: (i) execution of analyses and experiments to support the development of design requirements for electrochemical power stacks and power stack components; (ii) development and documentation of standard operating procedures for design verification and component qualification; (iii) working with senior technical staff to design experiments to support root cause and corrective action investigations; (iv) independently executing laboratory experiments to support end of life characterization of power stack components, component verification, and root cause corrective action investigations; (v) write technical reports and give technical presentations to colleagues within the organization to communicate findings.
Relocation: Relocation/Housing Stipend is possible for this exciting position.

Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.
Basic Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Materials Science or a related field, and 2 years of experience performing research and development in a technical organization. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and have a strong attention to detail.
Candidates should be proficient in performing statistical analysis of analytical data sets and characterizing measurement error.
Must be a US Person, citizen or green-card-holder.
Desired skills: We are seeking self-starting individuals with strong technical aptitude and serious interest in renewable energy technologies.
Individuals must be flexible, able to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, and able to work independently and as part of a group.
Relevant experience in energy conversion devices (e.g. PV solar, batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers) is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in analytical techniques characterizing physical properties of materials such as dimensions, mechanical strength, and electrical conductivity.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience performing elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, and electron microscopy.
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 1 year of experience using Python or MATLAB programming languages for data analysis applications.
