Position Summary: Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room. Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Remains constantly vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Physically demanding, high stress environment. Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions. Pushing and pulling heavy objects. Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Manual and finger dexterity. Hand and eye coordination. Standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range. Working irregular hours including call hours. Must be able to return to hospital within 30 minutes when on call.
· Education: Must be a graduate of a surgical technology program accredited through the ARC/STA.
· Experience: Two years recent scrubbing experience in an acute-care facility.
· Certification/Licensure: Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within one year of hire. BCLS certification required.
