Position Summary: At the direction of the Medical Director and Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services, performs and documents all adult echocardiograms to include 2-D Echo, Continuous Wave Doppler, Pulsed Wave Doppler, Color Doppler, Stress Echo, Dobutamine Stress Echo, and Transesophegael Echo. Works with quality inventory control, assumes responsibility for the overall running of the echo department. Included in the job duties is responsibility for preparing patients and diagnostic equipment for imaging procedures and explanation of procedures to patients and assistance of the LRH Cardiologists with interpretation the data from the images and determination of which images should be saved and which should be discarded. Echo Tech is also responsible for ensuring that records are kept properly.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, have the ability to adjust focus, and be able to work in dim lit areas for long periods of time. The employee may need to push objects weighing more than 100lbs (echo machine), assist/lift/adjust objects weighing more than 100lbs (patients). The employee will routinely have to apply 20-50lbs of pressure with their arms and hands while obtaining images for the echocardiograms. Works in a clean, well-lighted and ventilated area. Is subject to communicable diseases and disagreeable orders occasionally. Is subject to radiation exposure, electrical hazards, and toxic and/or tetragenic substances occasionally. May be subject to environmental changes.
· Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited program for Cardiac Sonographers.
· Experience: Must have at least 3 years of experience performing echocardiograms. Experience with intravenous access preferred, or to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
· Certification/Licensure: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with CCI or within one year of eligibility. BCLS certification required, ACLS certification recommended.
