Sr. Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who wants to create world-class battery systems and make an impact with them. You must be genuinely passionate about electric vehicles and energy systems. You must want to work in a rapidly evolving small company where you will wear many hats. You must be excited about creating reliable, high quality and safe products and delivering them to real customers.
You will innovate, create and have a major impact on the company and its products, working alongside experienced leaders and helping to mentor others. You will be responsible for leading the design of new battery packs and modules, and developing technologies to push the state of the art. You will own major subsystems from kick-off to prototype, validation, release, volume production and support.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new lithium ion battery systems and manufacturing processes, including parts, processes, mfg equipment, assembly methods, and fixtures.
- Perform detailed design analyses: DFMEA, CFD/FEA, Tolerance Analysis, etc.
- Define and execute testing to evaluate and validate new designs.
- Produce CAD and detailed drawings for manufacturing.
- Engage with suppliers to source prototypes and production parts.
- Build products, support and direct production teams.
- Continuously improve production, engineering, quality management and business processes.
- Support and mentor others, work to foster an inclusive culture of engineering rigor and professionalism.
- Anything else needed to get the job done.
Qualifications:
- Thrives in a fast-paced, small team environment. Very effective communicator.
- B.S. Engineering and 5+ years relevant work experience.
- 3+ years design experience with integrated electronics (HV / battery systems preferred).
- Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and DFM for a wide range of manufacturing techniques.
- Experience owning designs through validation, first builds and release to stable production.
- Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks + CFD/FEA experience preferred).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Familiar with battery and electrical safety topics, electronics and component selection
- Experience bringing new designs through in to stable production, managing internal and supplier quality.
- Experience with environmental and abuse testing, regulatory certifications (UN 38.3, UL 1973, etc). Validation of simulation results.
