Lighthouse Lab Services seeks a Diagnostic Lab Manager for a non-profit research and clinical care center in Long Beach, California. The lab focuses on the development of cutting-edge, individualized treatment protocols for orphan diseases utilizing comprehensive diagnostic tools and patient-driven research. The lab’s mission is two-fold – to advance treatment discovery at a pace which helps our patients today, while building a scalable model of success to accelerate the rate of research discovery for all diseases.

The city is home to the Port of Long Beach, one of the busiest container ports in the world, as well as numerous marinas and the famous Queen Mary ocean liner. The Ideal Candidate: Will perform high and moderate complexity testing and oversee testing of medical laboratory technicians and specimen management by phlebotomists in order to provide data used in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of diseases.

Responsibilities and Knowledge includes but not limited to:

  • Manage day-to-day activities within the diagnostic lab
  • Ensure that all testing is performed according to established, approved procedures and quality control policies
  • Pre-analytic, analytical, and post analytic activities
  • Establish and maintain metrics to understand and manage efficiency and effectiveness; utilize metrics to mitigate risks, improve performance, and highlight the team’s accomplishments
  • Plan lab work schedules and assign work accordingly, making adjustments to ensure continuous productivity levels
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance
  • Coach and counsel team members to assist in their professional development
  • Anticipate departmental needs in order to establish both long and short-range goals; provide direction to the team to ensure implementation of plans and the meeting of goals
  • Prepare written monthly reports of all laboratory activities
  • Establish necessary budgetary controls and maintain costs within budget
  • Accountable for implementation and employee compliance with policies and procedures
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of capital equipment
  • Investigate and resolve issue; inform director of all major issues
  • Responsible for the maintenance and retention of all documents needed for Federal/State inspections; ensure successful inspections and initiate timely remedial action as appropriate
  • Ensure that the laboratory maintains certification in all testing areas and retains its license
  • Perform other duties as directed


  • Quality control of specimens (less than 1% of specimens lost or mishandled)
  • Pass CLIA, CAP and other regulatory audits with less than 15 citations
  • 98% of requisitions completed and released within 7 days of blood draw
  • Maintain productive ImmunoCap use rate per month per patient


  • Valid CA CLS license
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory/management experience
  • Thermo Fischer PHADIA1000 experience required
