POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Engineer is a thought leader and top-level contributor in the Lighthouse IT organization.   This role has the responsibility of configuration, administration, maintenance, monitoring, alerting and troubleshooting as well as strategy and planning for our cloud and data center based operations.  Reporting to the Sr. Director – IT Infrastructure, this role will work with other team members to ensure availability, reliability and performance of our compute, storage, network, application and virtualization platforms.  The Sr. Systems Engineer will be an expert in one domain of enterprise computing and a generalist in several other areas.    This role will influence and guide the enterprise IT organization in support of our fast growing business.  The right candidate will thrive in a high change, high growth environment with a focus on collaboration and delivery.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and management of our global IT infrastructure.
  • Work closely with business owners to ensure that systems and services operate reliably at scale
  • Communicate clearly with peers as well as management.   
  • Provide technical leadership to more junior team members
  • Lead and participate in engineering analysis of production systems including trending and capacity planning, business continuity and disaster recovery for critical systems. 
  • Analyze and resolve performance issues, scale and/or capacity issues
  • Proactively monitor systems to insure high availability with minimal downtime
  • Produce operational, configuration and procedural technical documentation
  • Participate in the on-call rotation providing escalation support after-hours.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports global infrastructure applications.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. 
  • Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Manage and escalate cases to vendors for problem resolution
  • Generate or collate performance and capacity data for reporting
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization
  • Build tools, processes and system to automate processes and increase operational efficiency
  • Develop and sustain productive relationships
  • Collaborate with all functional areas of the business on projects 
  • Learn the Company’s service offerings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND BEHAVIORS

  • Expert technical leadership in the design, implementation and management of our Microsoft  Windows/Vmware based environment
  • Management of Windows Server components such as Active Directory, GPOs,etc. 
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL
  • Strong understanding of data center design and principles for highly available IT infrastructure
  • Experience with monitoring packages and frameworks
  • Ability to plan, scope and estimate work to produce high quality work on time and on budget
  • Expert level understanding of Microsoft Active Directory principles and design
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work with diverse teams (national and international) in a collaborative manner

  • Experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructures to support high performance, high capacity and cloud computing solutions
  • Scripting experience with MS PowerShell or other scripting language, 
  • hardware maintenance and lifecycle management in a data center environment
  • Proven track record of driving IT projects to completion with multiple competing priorities
  • Knowledge of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
  • Solid understanding of data center operations principles
  • Experience with enterprise IT monitoring, alerting and trending tools.   
  • Experience working with Servicenow or other enterprise workflow and ticketing systems
  • Experience with eDiscovery, legal services or related work desirable
  • Ability to plan, scope and estimate project work
  • Experience with enterprise SAN and enterprise NAS
  • Hands-on experience with Vmware
  • Certification in ITIL or other process frameworks

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+  years of  progressive experience with large scale IT infrastructure
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field or comparable job experience
  • Experience operating high capacity and/or high performance database IT systems in a virtualized infrastructure 
  • Large scale IT experience with multiple data centers
  • Working knowledge of security principles as related to IT infrastructure management
  • ITIL experience or certification a plus
  • Cisco UCS experience a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Duties are performed in a typical office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. 
  • Duties require the ability to use a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
  • Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Duties may require the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
