Foreign Language Cataloging Project Manager

LAC Group is seeking a Foreign Language Cataloging Project Manager to work at a prestigious federal agency on Capitol Hill. The Project Manager will supervise a team of catalogers processing titles in numerous of foreign languages by supplying required metadata in MARC21-compliant bibliographic records. Hours for this role are flexible but is expected to be part-time. 

Responsibilities:

• Manage team of catalogers performing the following tasks in multiple foreign languages for both Serials and Monographs:
  • Copy cataloging with authority control and bibliographic file maintenance 
  • Original cataloging with authority control and bibliographic maintenance 
  • Enhanced minimal level cataloging with no bibliographic file maintenance or authority control (non-rare)
  • Copy cataloging with no bibliographic file maintenance or authority control (both rare and non-rare)
  • Original cataloging with no bibliographic file maintenance or authority control (both rare and non-rare)
• Provide quality control review for bibliographic files
• Meet regularly with federal staff to discuss ongoing work, future tasks, problems and resolutions 
• Provide accurate reporting of weekly and monthly metrics 

Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Master’s degree in Library Sciences 
• Knowledge and understanding of standard cataloging practices 
• Expert knowledge of Resource Description & Access (RDA), the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), MARC 21, etc.
• Familiarity with the use of Cataloger’s Desktop and the RDA Toolkit 
• 3 years experience managing large scale cataloging projects that include English and Foreign languages (i.e. Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
• 3 years experience managing staff who have worked in an ILS
• Experience providing accurate reporting of cataloging production 
• Focused attention to detail and the ability to follow standard procedures in the physical handling and processing of materials
• Proof of COVID vaccination
