Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Lighting Sector Team in Denver, CO. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for creating custom designs of luminaries to meet project requirements. The Mechanical Engineer will use their expertise in manufacturing, sheet metal properties, electrical wiring, and mechanical assembly, to generate 3D models, 2D part drawings, maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs), and assist the Production Team with the assembly of custom product.

What Will You Do?

  • Engineering (70%)
    • Utilize SolidWorks to design components for manufacturing by sheet metal bending and modifications/machining of stock material
    • Design multi-component weldment assemblies
    • Generate and maintain CAD drawings and instruction sets for custom products which meet internal GD&T standards
    • Use the ERP system, Infor, to generate Bills of Materials and new part entries
    • Produce custom modification drawings and pattern pages for customer signoff
    • Understand lighting control types, sensors, controllers, and the associated wiring implications, to successfully incorporate components into custom product
    • Perform product mock-ups in the engineering lab to determine assembly process, luminaire output/distribution, and final appearance of the product
  • Technical Support (30%)
    • Work in tandem with the Internal Quotes & Sales team to define project requirements, answer technical application inquiries, and resolve possible field installation and maintenance issues
    • Assist Production floor with product assembly issues
    • Maintain basic knowledge of full product portfolio


Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering


  • Entry Level, Internship to 2-3 years' experience

Preferred Skills

    1. 3D CAD Skills (SolidWorks preferred)
    2. Mechanical assembly design
    3. Luminaire design preferred
    4. Sheet metal design preferred
    5. BOM creation experience
    6. Electrical wiring knowledge preferred
    7. Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment
    8. Must be able to deal professionally with internal customers, co-workers and regulatory personnel
    9. Must be able to multi-task in a highspeed environment
    10. Must have demonstrated problem solving capability
    11. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills
    12. Must meet deadlines for delivery of projects or give advance notice of potential delays
