Job Description
Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 per year plus benefits

In accordance with Mayor's Order, Lee Montessori PCS requires all staff to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or obtain approval for exemption due to medical or religious reasons prior to employment.

Human Resources Generalist Position Description

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for overall organizational human resources functions. Working closely with the Managing Director of Talent & Operations, this individual maintains a high quality, responsive, and service-oriented environment for all Lee Montessori staff members. In addition, the Human Resources Generalist will support the organization’s managers by providing clarity to the Employee Handbook with regards to employee performance and staff policies.


Major Responsibilities

HR and Benefits Administration

  • Oversee the administration of all employee benefits (including health, transit, vacation, sick leave, FMLA, disability, workers comp., etc.), track employee eligibility, and assist employees with enrollment.
  • Provide HR guidance when appropriate and act as a point person for staff regarding HR matters.
  • Maintain all personnel files, policies, and procedures and provide guidance and interpretation to staff.
  • Support management decisions by preparing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely timesheet submission and assist our third-party vendor process semi-monthly payroll for internal staff and payment for contractors.
  • Work closely with a third-party HR vendor to communicate employee benefits programs; host open enrollment meetings, resolve benefits issues for staff and provide ongoing support.

Recruiting and Onboarding

  • Assist recruitment efforts including identifying and cultivating sources for obtaining quality and diverse talent.
  • Liaise with hiring managers to coordinate and schedule interviews.
  • Create and maintain candidate selection rubrics to ensure an equitable selection process.
  • Ensure recruiting and hiring strategies are implemented and oversee the orientation process.
  • Responsible for communicating, coordinating, and scheduling all candidate interviews.

Employee Relations

  • Respond to employee relations and issues, providing consultation, facilitation, mediation, and resolution to others based on their proximity to the issue/team.
  • Conduct employee workplace investigations and maintain all proper documentation.
  • Maintain documentation of all employee relations records.

Performance Evaluation and Talent Management

  • Support the Managing Director of Talent and Operations and Managing Director of Academics with the academic and network staff performance evaluation process.
  • Support managers with creating and implementing employee performance improvement plans

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to HR and ensures Lee Montessori’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations across all offices.
  • Create and maintain employee files and support the annual audit process

Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Initiatives

  • Support the work of the Director of Equity and Engagement and work with leadership teams to align on key org-wide ABAR initiatives to ensure alignment and direction in accordance with our ABAR plan.
  • Implement ABAR strategies aligned to our ABAR commitment, talent strategy, and organizational culture strategy.
  • Partner in the development of resources and supports that further the organization’s ABAR commitment.
  • Participate and/or serve on internal and/or external committees or programs related to ABAR.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Plan and facilitate internal meetings and committees as needed. Examples may include assisting with the annual staff retreat, DEI committee, and employee engagement meetings.
  • This position is broadly intended to support the operations team’s capacity. As such, additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of HR or related work experience as an HR Coordinator or Generalist. SHRM or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience working in a K-12 or non-profit setting and/or familiarity with talent management issues and challenges facing urban schools preferred.
  • Previous experience with PayChex and/or BambooHR preferred.
  • Exceptional reliability, integrity, and ability to responsibly handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using sound judgment that is consistent with policies, procedures, regulations, or federal and state laws.
  • A demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and proficiency at spotting and addressing issues of race and identity.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and other government compliance regulations is required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A drive to implement new and innovative technology solutions to help solve issues and improve the employee experience at Lee Montessori.
  • Ability to listen, influence, and execute through others while coordinating across a broad and diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient computer skills with demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Google Docs, Sheets, and other software programs.
